Ever since I heard the story of Ronnie returning someone's cell phone to him, I wondered what I would do if I found myself in Ronnie's place? Would I step up and be a hero, or would I run like some sort of pathetic jellyfish? Would I stand up and be counted?
Well, tonight, I faced that challenge. That obstacle was put before me, and, ladies and gentlemen, I rose to the occasion. I stepped up. I did what Ronnie did, following his shining example.
I was at Target. I was looking on one of the shelves, when I noticed a cell phone had been left there. I felt panic building in me. My heart pounded. I wanted to run. Better not get involved, some voice told me. This is nothing but trouble.
But I pushed that fear aside. I picked it up, and found the nearest employee. And I said, "Hey, someone left their cell phone here." And the employee said, "OK, I'll take it to the service desk."
And so the day was saved. If I hadn't done that, who knows what could have happened. Whoever had that cell phone might have gone another 5, 10 minutes before he or she knew it was gone. Or it could have fallen into the hands of scoundrels, who would use it to do nefarious things. It's too hideous to think about.
Bless you, Ronnie, for giving me a shining example of courage. We're all striving to be more like Mr. B -- I think I got a step closer tonight.
