Well, It Looks Like The Senate Immigration Bill Is 'On Hold', At Least Temporarily. The "Grand Plan" Was Worked Out Buy A Few Dems Led By Kennedy And A Few Repubs Led By Kyl And Had The Approval Of Bush. It Is A Flawed Bill, As Is Any Compromise.

If Killed, It Will Be Because Of Both The Republican And Democratic "Bases".

This Is A Huge Issue And It Needs A Solution.

F_S Hates Kennedy, But Will Give Him And Kyl Props For At Least TRYING To Solve The Problem.

Just Saying "No" Is Not Enough. But Thats All We Get.

Fat, do you find any irony in the fact that on the anniversary of Reagan's "Tear down this wall" speech we have a sect of Americans who are pushing for a "wall on Mexico"?

Yes, F_S Is Not A Fan Of Walls. However, We MUST Find A Way To Have A RATIONAL Immigration Policy. All Fat Wants Is A Logical Process, Where People Are Checked In At Central Points (Like Ellis Island In The Old Days); Are Healthy; Have Sponsors To Vouch For Them; And Are Not Immediately Eligible For Govt. Benefits.

If We Know Who They Are And Where They Are Going And That They Are Not Criminals And That They Won't Abuse The System, Then F_S Is Happy To Have Them Come In!!

A Rational PROCESS. Is That So Hard!??!!?

I miss Brad Pitt F_S. Apparently he wasn't allowed to immigrate.

The government is not rational at times.

I find it curious that so-called "conservatives" are so willing to abandon one of their most important "core values" when it comes to immigration.

Just think of how important it is to them to go back to the Founding Fathers when it comes to the Second Ammendment.
Check out how vital it is to have "strict constructionist" judges in the courts, judges who will strictly interpret the Constitution just like in the days of the Founding Fathers.

But then along comes an emotional appeal to battle the incoming hordes of immigrants like Caligula battling the ocean, and their desire to get back to the ways of the Founding Fathers suddenly vanishes!

This country did just fine for over a hundred years without immigration laws (except those regarding the import of slaves).

We have plenty of jobs and plenty of room.

An added bonus is an influx of people enlarges the tax base which will make it easier to deal with the demographic bulge of baby boomers after they retire and are on Social Security.

the only way i can see a real fix to the immigration problem is to help make their home country less of a crap hole and perhaps even something worth living in. It would require a long commitment and a complete change in out focus, but nothing else has worked.

We really shouldnt let people from other countries come in uncontrolled...

they might rape our women, spread disease and force us onto designated areas of habitation (they could call them "reservacións") for the rest of our lives

I want border control to keep the people out who aren't supposed to be here. I want those who need jobs here able to come and work without having to be forced into indentured servitude. How fucking hard can this be? Republicans want the cheap labor, Democrats want the free votes. Until those two things change we won't get a bill that will be good for National Security and respect the human rights of the workers we need to come here.

Well, The Senate Killed The Bill Today, And By A Larger Margin Than Expected.

http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D8Q1UNF00&show_article=1

The Bill Was Flawed...From Everyone's Point Of View. A Compromise Always Is.

Add Immigration To Energy As Two Gigantic Issues That Our Elected Officials, In Both Parties And In Both Branches, Have Chosen To Duck.

As The Saying Goes: Not To Decide Is To Decide.

Chertoff said after the bill died today that he would continue to enforce the current law.

Right now I don't know if that's a good or bad thing. It would depend on your perspective I suppose.

The Feds can pass whatever law they want, it wont matter. Immigration is driven by economics. As long as there is a need for cheap, unskilled workers they will keep showing up one way or another.

That being said, shame on the know-nothing bases of both parties. This was NOT amnesty, not even close. Actually penalties were so HIGH I doubt many illegals (most of whom are dirt poor to begin with) would have bothered to take them up on the path to citizenship. A FIVE THOUSAND dollar fine? Where the FUCK do you think these folks are going to get $5,000? They're not. Most of them are barely paying their rent.

And for the folks on the Left who think they drag down wages, they are wrong. The reason why unions are losing ground and Americans are slowly losing long held job benefits is due to globalization, and we couldn't stop it if we tried. And were not trying because it would be economic suicide to do so.

The bill was stopped is that there were no hearings on this . There wasn't a cost analysis and also the fact that the bill was pushed too quickly. Most of these Senators didn't read the entire bill, just like most of the other bills that makes their way thru the system.

Right on, Furie.
Our country acts as a magnet and things are so bad they are willing to leave their friends, family, chrch and other social organizations and ties, and risk their life getting here.
We NEED people with that kind of get-up-and-go, I say.
But to lessen the attraction, we should launch a massive aid campaign, give mexice ohh, say $10 billion a year in aid, and in return they sell us all their oil at market price.

I agree with this wholeheartedly.

I'm curious who exactly this is referring to?

Or the Latin and South Americans can go work in the Middle East like the East and South Asians do.
