I'm taking a road trip vacation with my chick this summer and we're going to Newport, Boston and Bar Harbor. I've never been to Boston before and I was hoping you guys could help me out with some ideas of what's cool to do up there. Thanks.

Make sure that you don't miss The Bull and Finch Pub which was the setting for the Cheers show. It's awesome to behold in person and not a tourist trap in the least.
Nah. Just kidding.

It actually still exists, but they've built a lot of luxury condos and apartments there. I can see hookers out of my window now!

Just walk around. Avoid Fanieul Hall. Its just a tourist trap and it sucks.
But really, Boston is a TINY city, so its pretty easy to walk from the Commons to Fenway Park, and there's a lot going on.
We're also trying to become a world class food city, so there's a bunch of new, great restaurants everywhere.

OK, most of the places of interest have been named. But one thing I always do is go to Tall James' house. The James' alway have good food & drink, clean sheets, and a hot au pair.
Saves me at ton on hotels, too.

Hey Underdog, 25 Years Ago "Legal Seafood" In Cambridge Was The Best Seafood Around. Is It Still There? If So, Is It Still Good Or Just A Tourist Trap?

Well, its a chain now. They're all over the place.
They actually have a place called The Legal Test Kitchen in the new seaport area. They try out all sorts of new recipes and stuff before it makes it to the real menu.
As for the best seafood, I'm not really a big seafood guy, but when I do eat it, Legal's never lets me down. But there's a ton of places that people would say are better. It just all tastes like fish to me.

Thanks...that sounds very cool...i prefer a small city i can walk around in and soak up the sights and architecture and history...which is sort of why we chose Boston this year...
Right now, i'm definitely going to visit the Cambridge/Harvard area, Fenway, Freedom Trail, MFA, and a side trip to Concord (what can i say, i have my masters in American Lit, i have to go)
I'm also definitely a foodie, my chick and i love trying new restaurants...if anyone has specific restaurant/bar reccomendations i'd love to hear em...i'm more into bars with character than some trendy, packed club...

Maybe A Side Trip To Salem Then! (House Of The 7 Gables).

Yes FS, it is still there. I worked in the Square up until a few months ago and would go there periodically for lunch.

Thanks T_J! That Is Great To Know. The White-Haired Mr. Bartley Must Be Gone By Now. He Had A Slew Of Kids And They All Worked There And They All Looked Exactly Alike...Like Bobby Flay Clones. Hopefully, It's Still In The Family.
