i was fired aboot two months ago and it totally devastated me. i was numb for a week or so. now that i've had time to reflect on all the people who told me everyone gets fired at some point or another, i'm curious just how true this is. have YOU ever been fired and how many times?

0. I've always been able to leave on good terms, with phone calls of wanting me to come back.
Only walked out of a job once, and that was working in a warehouse with illegals and Bloods members. That's another story for another time.

There's several levels of being fired.
There's the acrimonious "get the fuck out of here" type of firing.
The "layoff" firing.
The firing where you didn't like the job situation anyway.
The firing where it's a bad situation but people's hands are tied.
I've been fired... a few times from shitty jobs where I didn't care, and I've been laid off a few times.

Yes, my worst Firing took place Jan 5 2002, was the Front Desk supervisor at a Sheraton hotel, this was the day the 49ers came back to beat the Giants in the NFl Playoffs, I was watching the game at the bar and when they lost, I started cursing up a storm , I did not relize the door was open and the Steakhouse where Adults were dining was in easy hearing distance. A few complaints to upper management and i was canned on Monday

I've never been fired, but I'm only 24. I'm sure it will happen one day, but probably not at my current job, since I'm leaving in a month and a half.

I understand how it can be shattering to your self-esteem to get fired. I still harbor bad feelings about a firing from YEARS ago, but it was a toxic workplace and in the long run it was really good for me and opened up opportunities with the competition.
But I'm still upset at the German shoe company.

I've gotten the "It's probably time for you to start looking for another job" speech. Fortunately, I was expecting offers from other employers at the time. Still, it was probably the worst feeling ever, even if I absolutely despised the job.
I've also gotten the lay-off firing. Probably the closest I've come to clinical depression so far.
I'm still not sure if it was viewed as "You're fired" or "I quit" but at my last job I called the owner a heartless cocksucker in front of everyone in the office.
Then I asked him to step outside so I could knock his teeth out.
Then I walked out.

Never been fired but the only time I was close I beat them to the punch and quit. But that was just a dumb valet parking job in college.

Never been fired. I try to leave on good terms no matter how shitty the job--don't like to burn bridges. The crappiest job I had I worked there for a week then gave my 2 weeks notice.

I sat and thought about it, but I can't ever remember being fired from a job. I've always quit to move to a new one or completely changed careers.

i'd never been fired before this time and never received even a negative review of any kind. this came totally out of the blue and was for a totally bogus reason. these are some of the reasons it hurt so much; it was a total shock. on top of it, the owner of the company had my supervisor fire me while the owner was away in bermuda, so i couldn't even confront him aboot it. silly to rant on it here, but the supervisor said "he wanted me to let you go because you didn't order A, but that doesn't make sense to me." the kicker, i did order A and had documentation of it. the super-kicker, i was told to take as much time for bereavement and then when i left was told they used my vacation days for that. fucking gutless cunts.
end ramble.

i've often wondered why you can't reconsider your votes.

I got fired from the same job like 3 times. Basically, one of the head bartenders and I would have it out, he'd get all pouty and threaten to quit if I wasn't fired, then he'd get over it and they'd bring me back.
