I read runnerkid's thread about putting a gazillion miles on a 2004 Honda.

I have a 2000 Hyundrai Elantra. It has close to 65K miles on it. I don't do any heavy-duty driving. Lots of local driving around JC; some trips to friends which will total maybe 300 miles round trip two or three times a year.

I had an oil change in April.

Got a tune up at 55K.

I think I got new transmission fluid 4 years ago.

Any takers?

its never a bad thing to do a fluid flush/tune up
it cant hurt

But it doesnt sound like you need anything
go to the dealer if you dont have anyone around you that you trust
Im not familiar with the area but dealerships have standardized work methods for your car
it will prob cost you about 100-130 to have a full tune up/fluid flush/and while your there they will look it over to see if you need anything
usually they will just sell you on buying new belts and maybe say something about your alignment maybe being off or something like that

If it makes you feel better about your car then do it
your piece of mind is worth the money

unless you dont have cash to just go willie nilly with
then you car is fine and dont worry about it

I thought it was paper towels....oh well

I have an honest mechanic around here...I could ask him questions....or, you could always fire up the ol' Google and find a website that will help you with any probs.

I mean, as long as you keep the oil changes regular, and there's nothing that's really making a sound or something that concerns you about the car's performance, you should be ok.

And failing that, I could always ask those helpful ducks that wander willy nilly around that restuarant

Have you had your brake pads changed? How are the tires? Are the treads shot or wearing unevenly?

Aside from the basics (oil changes, tires, brakes, etc.) today's cars really don't require too much maintenance for the first 100K miles.

Usually.

It's been my understanding that foreign cars seem to have a fairly good resale value. And if you've kept up for the most part with the maintenance schedule for the car then it should be in good shape. An even better way to prove that is if you save records of all the repairs and maintenance, but I'm not sure how anal a buyer or dealership would be.

If you're looking to trade it for value on a new car, I would say just to start shopping around for a car you like and when you're ready to get one bring the trade in. You won't get as much for it from them but using it as leverage in the deal will help. If they don't give you something close to what you want, you get up and leave. I'm sure they will ask you to sit back down and try to work with you. And if they don't, just use another dealership for the same kind of car.

Selling it on your own is gonna be a pain in the ass but you have a better chance of getting what you think it's worth. I guess you could start posting on Ebay motors and stuff like Craigslist. I've never sold a car that way so I'm not 100% of the best way to sell a car.

Finding the Blue Book value of the car is important too. Check herhttp://www.kbb.com/KBB/Default.aspxe with your year, make and model to get a rough idea. Again, it's just a rough idea and little body scratches or any problems with your car will of course change it, but the low mileage may bring it up.

Good luck.

I have a 2000 Hyundrai Elantra.

I love a lady who recognizes the mastery of Korean engineering.

Now excuse me while I go watch my Samsung.
