Something too weird to confront him/her that you inadvertently came across while living together.
Examples : Internet History, disproportionate amount of tissues in the trashcan by the computer, Weird noises at night, accidental walk in etc...
I don't have anything too weird but I figured someone else can top these:
One roommate left bizzare/dangerous sex acts in the history of the computer we all used. I was always scared about touching the keyboard/mouse after that. I also came home late one night and he was wearing only briefs holding a hockey stick posing in a mirror. Doesn't play hockey, no explanation.
Last roommate was a close relative that when I fixed his computer from spyware I came across a plethora of local escort adds. I never wanted to find that out. Defiantly awkward.

well, i wasn't silently awkward, but rather extremely pissed. my freshman year, i came back to my room at about 3 after a heavy night of drinking only to find my roommate pissing all over my bookshelf. i proceeded to choke slam him into the wall. the following day when i told him what happened, he said, "don't be such a puss about it." i grabbed him in his chair held a pencil up to his eye and said, "if you ever say anything like that again, ill fucking kill you." he moved out about 2 days later.

I found a porn DVD of my roommates one time under the couch one time, it was called. "Gaggers" i tried watching it and it seemed to be all forced blow jobs, it really disturbed me. I just put it back under the couch and pretended it didn't exist.

Not a roommate story but it definitely left me silently awkward:
Couple years ago I was down in Maryland with family to see my cousin before he left for Iraq. There was quite a number of us staying over, but with plenty of room to crash, sleeping arrangements were lax.
Me and a cousin slept down in the basement on her blow up mattress. Long story short, one of my cousins friends decided to just lay at the foot of the mattress and masterbate. It was the middle of the night and thus dark. I have no idea if he knew I heard him or if he was one of those people that gets off on the idea of being 'caught'. I was paralyzed with shock. Should I have said something? Guy was strange to begin with anyway.

i don't know if this counts but i found out my last roommate (girlfriend) was fucking someone else. I was silent at first, until they finished. After that, my raging boner made it really awkward.

If you're a guy and you have guy roommates you become desensitized to alot of disturbing shit. I had a roommate in college that was infatuated with Britney Spears. This was during her peak and everytime a new video was released he was in heaven. One night after a night at the clubs we all came back to the house. My roommate had came home alone and very drunk. We were sitting around watching MuchMusic and a new Britney vid came on. My roommate told everyone to leave the room because he was going to jerk off to the video. We all grabbed our chicks and ran for the bedrooms because we knew he was serious. We all had to sit in our rooms listening to Britney Spears playing from the living room and my roommate saying things like "Ooh Britney you lil' slut" or "Take it Britney". The girls didn't want to come back out to the living room but myself and the other roomies were used to his shit and it didn't bother us too much.

Possible, that idea never occurred to me and I really don't want to find out.

I'll start off by saying that me and my old roommate weren't close before we moved in together. It was more an issue that we both needed someone to split rent with. Well he had various issues including a failed suicide attempt that left noticeable chaffing on his body. Some chick he liked found him and he was fine, no damage. Was for sure a cry for help over anything serious. But I never addressed it with him. Was more of a kind of hey you alright kind of thing. Soon after he found a new place and moved out. Amazingly I ended up moving in with him again about 4 months later but none of those issues anymore. I felt bad for the kid but I'm not the kind of guy who's going to get myself involved with something I could see he wasn't comfortable talking about.

I live by myself. And yet the silently awkward situation still applies.
How about a porn tape of whipped cream pies being slapped into people's faces.
I still giggle at the thought of this fetish.

I briefly had a quiet roommate who who constantly stared intensely at my friend's dog Bailey without blinking or speaking for hours when he was over.
Well this continued and intensified without reason when we were getting high. The trash had not been taken out for a while and was starting to linger.
With perfect timing to break the stoned silence, a friend finally asked what that smell was. Barely before he finished asking the question, the brief roommate blurted out screaming:
"I think it's Bailey's vagina!"
We finally discovered what he had been silently staring at for the past couple days.
It wasn't silent just awkward, lot's of pointing and laughing quickly occurred. Unrelated, he's now institutionalized.
