It's funny. They call him a lame duck president, yet he faces the Democractic Party on every measure they pass. This Congress is utterly useless.
And what has YOUR Majority party done Hillary? Hmm? How about overriding the veto?
[QUOTE"This is just one example of how the president puts RELIGION before science, politics before the needs of our families,
Fixed that for her.
If the measure Bush vetoed would have become law, the White House said it would have compelled taxpayers for the first time in our history -- to support the deliberate destruction of human embyros. Snow said Bush's executive order will encourage scientists to work with the government to add research on new stem cell lines -- that does not involve the creation, harming or destruction of human embryos -- to the list of projects eligible for federal funding.
"The president does not believe it's appropriate to put an end to human life for research purposes," Snow said. "That's a line he will not cross."
I thought stem cells came from aborted feti. If that's the case, then taxpayers are already paying for their destruction, so why not have some good come from it? Fucking moronic Bible-thumpers...
This is for goverment grants so...
Scientists have made totipotent cells from umbilicle cord blood and other adult sources so there still will be research in this but will have to go through other steps.
Gene Therapy is the future anyways.
There's just not enough Democrats in Congress to override the veto. There's a group of Stone Age Republicans in each house just big enough to hold this up. They've done all they could. Blame the people who keep voting in these fucking fundamentalists.

They can't just override the veto, they have a 51-49 majority. The Senate is structured in a way that you really need 60 votes to do anything. If the Republicans wanted to, they could have blocked this bill from even being voted on.
The media played up the last elections as this huge victory that gave the Democrats all this power. Although they gained a lot of seats, having a majority that slim in the Senate doesn't give a party much of anythingin terms of getting major legislation done.

Bush Vetoes Stem Cells
To be fair, he just vetoed grants to study them, not Stem Cells themselves, he can't unmake their existence.

Exactly. So the Democrats have the power to stop any legislation they don't like, but don't have enough power to force their legislation over a Presidential veto.

I think if he could understand what one was he may try to rid the world of them entirely and have children come out already aged 5 years, so they wouldn't be so "icky and sticky."

Stem cell research could save my sons life. He has muscular dystrophy. An aborted fetus is already dead.

And I should be clear that I'm heavily in favor of Stem Cell research, and Bush is an ass for not supporting it.

Just show him all the ape DNA in our stem cells, then he might not think they're so . . special. . . . .Oh wait. He doesn't believe in that either.

I voted for Bush twice... (the second time was a bad decision, and I hope to learn from my mistakes)
Bush's stand on the stem cell situation is wrong. If we can save/improve the quality of peoples lives then we need to.

First of all, I'm really REALLY sorry your son has MD. Having said that, I really hate these dummy politicians. Those in favor of the research make it sound like if not for that evil bush sitting in the White House, the cure for your son is only a couple of years away.
I was delivering to a guy who has some kind of terminal lung disease that gives him constant bouts of bronchitis. He actually told me that he is going to die because of Bush's veto (the first one) The politician he talked to told him that if it wasn't for Bush, he'd be okay because there probably would have been a cure by now.
But I do hope your son gets cured and by whatever means...whether its by stem cells or by a shot or a pill.

I hope this turns out to be as good as it sounds right now.

If we can do all the research with these re-engineered stem cells that we could with the embyonic ones that W put the kibosh on I say we do it full speed ahead (and try to put one of these Red state v. Blue state fights behind us).
