View Full Version : How do Jews do it?

I just had a nice cheeseburger off the grill and can't imagine not having meat and cheese together. How can strict kosher jews follow this rule. Cheese must be melted on beef. For those of you that can avoid this I have to bow to your restaint. There is no way I could ever comply, I'm just too weak. What religious eating practice do you think would be the hardest for you?

Beat me to it. My wife says that if she had to do it with an hasidic jew that she'd want a sheet with a hole in it, too.

the meat and cheese thing would hurt ... so would the absence of bacon and all other wonderful pork variations
but, missing out on ship, lobster & muscles would be ungodly

a life without bacon would make me sad. :( i actually like to have a bacon cheeseburger on good friday and think how so many religions (including my own) would totally disapprove of it.

If you were raised that way you really would have no idea what you were missing.

i'm so confused by this post. the kkk were anti-catholic (my religion) as well as anti-semitic, but weren't opposed to all religion. i'd imagine they had some sort of warped protestant religious background and would be just as opposed to the eating of meat on good friday. am i just reading too much into a silly post?

They just eat White Castle Slyders w/o cheese. They are just as good. There is one up in Toms River near Lakewood. Tons of Jews up there, and the White Castle has customers around the block.
The hardest eating practice for me would be the old catholic rule of Fish on Fridays. Other then fried catfish fillets, I just can't stomach seafood.

No I don't think so. Protestants like me never had that silly Friday Fish thing, and the KKK are the hardcore wacky Baptists who aren't too far off from the modern day haters...the Westboro Baptist Church (Yep, the Phelps)
Now having said that, being a Baptist myself I understand where someone can say not all Baptists are KKK, just like a Catholic saying not all priests are kid-touchers. But the KKK came from the Baptists, and we still haven't apologized for that one yet. But the KKK never went for the no meat on Friday to put a simple ending on an otherwise rambling post. Sorry.

Its really easy to keep kosher when you live in the desert and raise sheep like the ancient jews used to do. I'm a modern jew and i love me some cheeseburgers

What is a cow menorah? Are menorahs made from cows? Seriously, I always thought menorahs were made of cotton. Menorahs are what you wear on your head in Temple, right?

My girlfriend is Jewish, and its very interesting to see the different levels of adherence to the dietary restrictions through out her family. Her mom keeps a pretty kosher kitchen, with two sets of dishes (you see, not only can you not put cheese on meat, but cheese and meat cannot touch the same dishes, even if you wash them in between), but when she goes out she'll order crab cakes for dinner. Once, a cousin of hers was visiting from Israel, we met for lunch, and she ordered a club sandwich. I was blown away.

I understand the whole "If you weren't raised with it you probably wont miss it" angle, but I think that most of us can agree that frying bacon in the air is one of the universal smells that gets us drooling.
I still believe that a Jew or Muslim wh smelled this would start to wonder if they'd chosen the right path. Bacon has the power to make men deny their God.

That's so their eyes don't sting when they get jizzed in the face. It's taught at Jew School.
