So I went to a Barack Obama fundraiser in NYC last night. I'm not a huge fan of his, I'm not even a Democrat, but Mom really wanted to go. She bought the tickets, I picked up the dinner tab beforehand, and there we were.

It was a good event. Attendance was obviously less than what they wanted, but that's what you get for planning an event on a Friday night in the summer in Manhattan. Crowd was definitely skewed to the under 35 crowd, he definitely seems to have a good grip on the young professional crowd.

After an hour or so of cocktail hour, Ben Harper came out and played a couple of songs. He was good, crowd was into it, and he then introduced Senator Obama. He probably spoke for 20 minutes or so and that was that. I can say he's much more impressive giving a speech live then he has been in the debates. I don't agree with a lot of what he says (behind all the we're gonna change politics talk, there's no avoiding that he's a big government liberal), but it's really hard not to get caught up in the whole scene with the crowd yelling and him playing off of them.

It's not gonna make me vote for the guy, but I'd say it would be worth it to go see him speak if you have the chance, preferably at some free rally and not one of these fundraisers.

The guy is a great public speaker. I saw him speak once at a political really, and he was really good at interacting with the crowd and getting everybody excited.

i've seen a few here and there in my day, and there can definately be worse people talking, the kind of people that make you remember you've been standing for 2 hours, and your feet are killing you.
