Living in Westchester County about 20 min from Manhattan offers the best of both worlds. Very close to the city, either by train or car, and a fairly reasonable drive to Jersey and Long Island. Its not noisy like NYC but at the same time not like living in a rural area. The only drawback like many places in NY and the Northeast in general, taxes are out of control, but I like living in Westchester.

If I didn't have to live here for work I wouldn't. The traffic is horrible and the food sucks.

I think it's time to go overseas again.

i love living in Jersey City. its minutes from New york city, theres always great festivals going on. and the people are real. i grew up in this city with pretty much every culture. everyone is different, nothing the same. im glad i didnt grow up in a neighborhood that had one race or culture. i dont think i would be the person i am today if that happened. I grew up having very little so for everything i have now i am grateful.

i choose to still live in jersey city because this place is who i am.

I love Brooklyn but not where we live. i would like to Bay Ridge or Williamsburg but we cannot afford it. I am a Brooklyn boy, to the bone. I don't think I would live anywhere else. If I did, it would be the city or Hoboken. I do not see us moving out to the Burbs anytime soon unless we have a kid, which isn't happening. We are not burbs people at all.

Not really. There are some parts of Arlington that are more fun to live in, but i would prefer to live in DC. I'm ready to live in another part of the country, so I guess its good I'm moving to Chicago in a month and a half.

i love where i am now: astoria (by the park & ditmars)

i have a sweetheart deal on an amazing apartment; 20/25 minute commute to work on one train that stops on my office block

very multi-culture in the very best sense: an infinite of choice from a wide selection of international (and local) cuisine; great bars; great mix of old/young, hip/familiar, local/foreign -- and everything in walking distance

and convenient to anywhere else in the metropolitan area

I live in downtown Boston, right on the edge of the financial district and I love it. There's something great about walking outside my door and just being in the city. And I can also see the two strip clubs in Boston from my windows.

I used to think I really hated Boston, but I've realized, in describing the city to other people, that I really love this city, I just fucking hate all the spoiled college kids here.

I like Atlanta... But It's really just mediocre....

The "arthouse" cinemas in Atlanta are few and far between...
Also 2 of our top 3 Indie theaters here are both showing the fantastic four sequel, oceans 13 and evan almighty...... We have 1 theater that (sometimes) plays real arthouse stuff..

It may be shallow to measure a city by it's film scene; and there are a million things about Atlanta that I love, but I really would rather be in NYC.....

I can get a 2br gated apt in a suburban Atlanta neighborhood for around $800...
That would basically get me a studio basment apt in queens......

I'd choose queens... some people in atlanta would call me crazy, but i'll take nyc's culture scene over most anything.....

You have Shanghai Jazz. Bastard.

I was in your town today, shopping in the Whole Foods. I wanted a fake tuna sammich, and got one. Delish.

I live in two places. The suburbs, in the same house I've been in my entire life, and Newark...which is basically the complete opposite.

I get bored in the burbs, and I'm afraid to go out at night in Newark (unless I'm with people). I'm more productive there, though...and I have a big space for very cheap. It's close to Newark Penn Station, and if I stay out too late in the city, I know I always have a place to stay in Brooklyn.

Oh, and I'm probably moving to Brooklyn or Queens soon. I absolutely love cities, lived in Manhattan for two years of school, and I miss it. It's the perfect environment for an insomniac.

i haven't been there since i was like 12, but all anyone ever says aboot buffalo is that it's depressing. i totally get the concept of it being your city. that trumps all else a lot of the time.

personally, people keep talking of culture, but i don't know. what culture do people really get? are people going to museums and such? i'm not doing much of that myself, so i don't really get the whole culture concept.

and of course bufallo would have more culture than LI. it's comparing a city to a suburb. imagine if you lived in buffalo suburbs (i assume they have some) and refused to count the city. i can't imagine there would be much of anything there either.

I like where I live. Lots of parks, 20 minutes from work, plus the development I live in is real nice. Right by the water with a view of the Throgs Neck bridge. Plus it has a health club that I pay for but never use. The only other place I'd live is Manhattan, but it would have to make sense business wise, and I'm not there yet.

I grew up 2 miles outside of DC but I have been living in Suburban HELL for the last 10 years. Soccer moms as far as the eye can see. Art houses? HAH! The best you're going to get is a googleplex movie theatre showing 4 screens of Spiderman 2.

There is a whisper at work that they may promote me and transfer me to Atlanta. With a hefty raise and the housing rates down there - it is certainly attractive to me. Plus, I have lifelong friends that live there and some family too. There are certainly a lot more cultural activities in Atlanta than in Bel Air MD so I guess it's all relative.

I've only been here (Athens, GA) for about a month, but am getting to like it more and more. It has the perfect blend of a small city (good food, great beer, great music...) and hicksville, right outside town, pastures, forest, Bar-B-Q.

I've lived a lot of places in my life, Anchorage, AK, Beaufort, NC, Mobile, AL, Woods Hole, MA, New Paltz, NY, Davis/Winters, CA, now Georgia. I'd have to say that I pretty much like all those places, some more than others obviously (Mobile and Davis, but not Winters, are a littel low on that list.)

My extended family is all that tri-state area (NY,NJ,CT) and I've spent enough tim their to know that I would probably like it there too.

Maybe I just likes places. Places are cool.

Niederstiens is gone? Wow, that place was there forever. With the way real estate has gone up, they probably get more from just the interest on selling the land then they made running the restaurant. That was a big property. Plus the neighborhood has changed so much, not as many Germans around.

Anyone who knows me, knows I hate where I currently live.

I would love to be back in NY but like others have said before, the economics are very tough

Even though I hate it, I'm in the process of buying a house and what I get for what I can pay is incredible buts its still in NC.

a buddy of mine bought a house in Floral Park LI, for a little over 500,000 a tiny plot of land and 9000-10000 dollars in taxes and it needs about 30-40 grand in work

I'm getting a house in the 190000 to 210000 range, I saw one I like yesterday 214000(negotiable) half acre, that backs up to a park on a dead end street. beautiful place I wish it was in NY at that price............

I dont like the south but I like there prices..

I think my tastes for living changes with the seasons. I like to be in the burbs and city in the Fall and Winter, but when the weather gets nice I like to be out in the hills, mountains, fields, wherever there are alot of trees and a minimum of traffic, and a plausibly vibrant night life.

I currently am living in the suburbs, but I'd love to live in a tin shit-house in the city rather than a big house in the suburbs just because I hate suburbia in general. All the houses are the same, with the same yards, same kids, same dogs, same SUVS, same BBQ's, zero personality and lots of soccer moms. And there's no night life, no pulse, no scene...for every city that has too many "spoiled college kids" (college chicks in Boston incidentally are the biggest goers in the history of college kids so I don't see the complaint about 'em) the burbs is where those kids get spoiled rotten in the first place.

Andomray, Marc, and everyone else who's spoken up for city living are absolutely right. I like a place that has a pulse, a vibrant heartbeat that gets you moving and living. It can be exhausting, sure, but that's the price of actually living. If you need to make an escape or getaway from the city, fuck the suburbs. Get a cabin off the coastline in Maine or something like that. That's where you get true peace and quiet, and makes for a fine getaway. The food is great in Maine incidentally...if you eat seafood anyway.

I recently ,moved to windsor Terrace in Brooklyn and all I have is prospect park. To have any action at all I need to walk up to Park slope. I can back Murfee up with the moms in the neighborhood wanting to walk into the bar on a sat or sunday sports weekend and request an odd channel so their kid will be entertained. It drives me, my friends and my chick crazy. I also am a fan of Farrels. It reminds me of the bar my dad took me too as a kid where I learned the bar is for the adults and the pinball machine was where my place was.

VA, TN, NJ, NYC, FL and NC....NY is my fav with NJ being second because of how close it is to NY.

Although I am pretty happy living in sunny downtown Carmel NY an hour above the city, but then again i've never had a chance to leave yet. In an ideal world I would probably like to live outside Boston.

I live in Playa Vista, CA (1/4 mile from the beach) but I can't stand LA. I hate it. Too many fucking people, too much driving, not enough public transit, too in love with itself. Fuck this area.

F_S Isn't Sure What It Would Mean To Playa Vista (And He Hopes LedZep Stays Safe), But He Just Wishes The San Andreas Fault Would Phucking Do What It Is Phucking Supposed To, Which Is To Split Apart And Dump LA And San Fran Into The Ocean, Or At Least Make It A Nice, Long, Skinny, Jumbo Catalina Island A Few Miles Offshore.

Damn You, San Andreas. You Are A Huge Disappointment. Nay, A FRAUD!

Far to many minorities where I live.

I'm kidding. Sort of. I have no problem with people who aren't white. So living where there's a large influx of blacks and hispanics isn't bad. But we have a big mix of people. Oh beautiful central/north jersey.

I was going to move south to Georgia (possibly savannah) after I grduated college. Things changed though so I'm thinking about trying to get a place up in Boston. I would also love to live in Dublin or Edinboro.

I have lived on Texada Island off the coast of British Columbia and it is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Only one member of RF.net that I have spoke to knows where it is but google earth it and you'll find it easy enough. The island is between Vancouver island and the BC mainland so the water gets nice and warm in the summers and the diving is great around the area. My neighbors are great people and there is plenty of bud to smoke so I can't really say anything negative about it other than the isolation, which doesn't bother me at all.

If I didn't live where I do I would want to live in the middle of the desert in a place like Doug Stanhope does. I prefer living by the ocean but the desert is such a cool enviornment that I wouldn't mind living in Southern Nevada, Arizona or New Mexico.

For us the tough part is where do we live that is within a day's drive of family.
I have my choice of the west coast and we picked the wine country. It's nice enough. I visited Austin, and it seemed pretty hip. I lived in SF LA and I'd like to say I lived in NY so that I can have the trifecta, but I dunno if thats gonna happen.
