This thread is based on a disagreement that started in the Chris Benoit thread. I thought it should get its own forum.

Defend your "style" of wrestling action.

I prefer the more technical based wrestling. To me some of the best workers in the business were guys like Curt Henning, Chris Jericho, Melenko, Latino Heat, and RVD. Could go out there and tear the house down without the need for T-Shirts and quick hook phrases like "Can you smmmmmmeeeell......."

If people have an hour to kill, watch this match.

Great match, from 2 great wrestlers. No gimmicks between the two, no 45 minute long promos of random babble, just straight up wrestling.

Sometimes I enjoy straight up brawls. Necro vs Samoa Joe I was a great brawl seen here

It's hard to pick just one favorite style.

I also recommend anything from Mike Quackenbush. The dude is absolutely amazing.

In the current WWE, from what I've seen, I like Edge, but I haven't watched much.

My personal favorites for many years (when I actually watched) were:

Dynamite Kid
The Great Muta
Mick Foley
Chris Jericho
and yes, Chris Benoit

I never liked guys that went out there and didn't know how to sell, or didn't do it in the context of their character, take a huge move, sell it for 30 seconds, then sprint around the ring. Never made any sense to me.

OK, so this thread actually started because of comments I made concerning Chris Beniot. Essentially what I said is that I never thought he was a good wrestler in the first place and many of you came to his defense. Well I would like to apologize to everybody because I figured out why we had a difference of opinion.

First off, I am older than most of the people that were posting I am 36 years old and wrestling when I was growing up was much different. I was watching MSG Garden Classics, if you do not know in New York/Jersey, the sports channel MSG shows classic WWF matches held at Madison Square Garden. Well I saw Mr. Perfect vs. Ricky Steamboat, The Iron Sheik vs. Sergeant Slaughter and Dr. Death vs. Hulk Hogan tonight, and realized our argument was due to a generation gap.

Watching the moves in the ring was ridiculous, Ricky Steamboat was considered a high flyer during my day, but you could see him putting up his hand to block his face before Mr. Perfect hit him and to be honest you could tell it was so fake and all the moves were calculated. Back then, wrestling was not considered a physical activity, it was more like a soap opera that was carried into the ring. Sergeant Slaughters great move for instance was trying to take off the opponents shoe and hit him in the throat with it, image that being a great move today.

Well any way, you people have grown up with the high flying crazy moves; you are the ECW generation and me arguing with you about what is good and bad is like me arguing with my step father as to whether Hulk Hogan or Gorgeous George was a better wrestler. Neither of us will ever change our minds because we comparing wrestlers that we grew up with to ones we never cared about.

So once again I apologize to anybody that I may have offended. You like wrestling for a different reason than I do.

By the way a new MSG classic just started with Sergeant Slaughter as a heel (Sadam Hussen sympathizer) vs. Hulk Hogan in a desert storm match, Jim Dugan vs. The Iron Sheik, The Big Boss Man vs. the Mounty DoRight and a Brett Hart vs. the Barbarian.

Well I am going to watch fireworks instead.

Stay Sleazy Mutha Fuckas.

thanksgiving followed closely by christmas. Thanksgiving tends to be worse because of more drinks and dad always smashes the dinner table.

My latest kick has been watching a hybrid between puroresu and mma. If anyone wants to see some of it, watch this match: Kawada v. llloukhine (http://youtube.com/watch?v=eOrmAktgETI)

i will always love wrestling in the 80's and then the original ECW. i only wish that the NWA was on TV here.

I like the high flyers in the cruiserweight/ light heavywieght/ X divisions

Next would be the technical wrestlers.

Hoss'es just bore me, unless they have something special. I still mark out for the hulkster, mick foley, and the undertaker.

If you like Strong Style get your hands on the tapes of UWFI from the 90's. Even though the style has pretty much died out, it remains one of my favorites. They had a few PPVs in the USA back when under the name ShootWrestling, hosted by Bruce Beck and Bruce Baumgartner and they played it like it was a legit sport even though it was worked. Nobuhiko Takada was the big star back then, but most matches were pretty good. Vader, Bob Backlund and Gary Albright all ended up working there.

The is Takada vs Victor Zangeief (the guy they modeled the street fighter character after)

I wouldn't classify this as Strong Style necessarily, as Strong Style is more of a worked "head drop/stiff strike" style. But this is definitely SHOOT style :)

I loves me some well performed worked shoots.

Any type of math can be great with 100 or so near falls.

I'm big on the style of matches recently employed by Benoit/MVP. My hatred for MVP as a person, performer, and athlete had me expecting shit from these two, but they had the best match on WM23 in my opinion. A hard, technical string of reversals.
