One of my favorite time wasting things to do at my computer is play Monopoly online. Atari's got it at games.atari.com.
Which leads me to this question: any other Monopoly fans out there? If so, what are your favorite tips and strategies for the game?
Here's mine; despite the title, the blue and green properties are for suckers. That side of the board is guarded by the Go To Jail square in the corner. The ones you want are the orange and red squares. People land on those all the time.
Oh, and the "get fine money from Free Parking" rule is lame.

I hate that money in free parking rule too. It's an f'n made-up rule people!
I always like aiming for the railroads too... good quick money without any dough going out for houses and whatnot.

It doesn't matter where you do it, but you want to get houses built up as soon as possible, and you want to try to prevent other players from doing it. And the Free Parking rule is great. Adds another dimension to the game, and before you guys try to tell me it ruins a game of skill, remember the entire thing is based around rolling dice. Chance is a huge part of it, and this adds something that can bury you or save you at any second. Very exciting.

Sorry, but if you try and pull that bullshit on me, I walk away from the game.
Besides, you know the Parker Brothers took time to think this all out. I think we should respect that.

I have to agree.. as I said before, it's a made-up rule (therefore not in the rule book). It may be in place to speed up the game or so, but it is bullshit. I wish that everytime I parked my car in real life someone would give me $500 and their luxury tax money.... bleh.

Perhaps they are. Then I should start making up my own rules for every game I ever decide to play in life. Play the game with the rules the creators gave it.
This is why I mainly stick to Scrabble.

i love playing monopoly. i always try to buy the yellow properties, ventnor, atlantic, and marvin gardens. i always rake in money on those. and as xample said, i always try to pick up the railroads. i always play with a bunch of kids at work so i have the money for free parking. it keeps the kids interested because they can get bored with the game quickly. but if im playing with friends, no money for free parking.

I buy a property when I land on it even if I have to mortgage everything to buy it. My goal is to always have at least one of every color thereby preventing a monopoly.
I don't think there's ever been a game invented that I despise more than Monopoly. Even as a kid it bored me to tears.
I've never been able to play a game all the way through and I never will.
