Bob Impact

yes, i would let him see it, but i wouldnt go to a theater to see an R rated movie with a child, that's annoying to people around you.

I agree with Bob. I was watching R movies at 13, and it didn't turn me into a criminal.

Depends on what the 'R' rating is for. If it's for violence or language, it's nothing that he hasn't seen in a video game or heard at school. Some brief nudity isn't bad but if it has strong sexual content or some perverse stuff, I keep him away from it. Also, if it's an 'R' rated movie, I'm the one whose taking him to see it.

C'mon... like he hasn't seen an R rated movie yet at a friends house or when you weren't around. Yes, let him go.

yeah I would, I agree with some others that I don't know if I'd take him to the theater, but watching them at home I have no problem with. I guess when it comes to the theater it depends on the movie and of course the kid.

My oldest is 8 but I would probably say No. As a parent I try to follow the shows my kids watch at least a little. There are shows that are on Cartoon Network that my kids aren't allowed to watch. 13 is a little older, as a parent I would have to know what the R rating is for. I am not exactly a law abiding citizen but as far as my kids know I always follow the rules and thats the example I try to set for them.

Maybe but probably not.

Yeah theyre watching them when youre not around, most parents seem to like the ignorance is bliss factor that accompanies.

I think it depends on the kid. My oldest boy is 13, and I have taken him to a few R rated movies (like some others have said, depends on why it is R).

I took him a few weeks ago to see Ricky Gervais in Tribeca, but he is a huge fan of Ricky from The Office & Extras.

Some kids act more mature than others. I don't see me doing the same with my 10 year old when he is 13.

Probably not. I used to let my kids watch R rated movies at home only after I had watched them and decided if it was appropriate for them. I wouldn't want to pay for a movie to screen it for them and then pay again to see it with them at a theater.

If they are mature enough to realize not to pull any stupid shit they see on the movie film or whatever, and that it's just a movie then yes I would.

I agree. I think sometimes an age limit can be an arbitrary number. Some situations require a case by case consideration.

My first movie in the theatre was RAMBO. I'm completely normal. Yes, I would take my kid to see an R rated movie no problem... but I do agree that it should be action type movies...

I'm like every other american, if it was violence yes. If it was for sex no. Not that I would feel they weren't ready for it just cause I'd feel strange seeing something sexual while I was sittting next to them.

most likely. as others have stated, my parents took me to r rated movies when i was 13. but it would really depend on the movie.

Hell why not if there watching the News they see the violence if there in school they hear the language, and violence and hell maybe a little sex. So take them it wont do any harm.

depends on the kid and the movie. some kids are more mature and some r's are not so bad.

and i totally disagree there's worse stuff on tv. yeah, there's r rated movies and such, but you can block those if you so choose.

I agree with this statement 100%. Who cares? Teach your kids the difference between reality and entertainment. There is violence in the real world and sex why shelter them from it? Think back to when you were younger. Didnt you know more then your parents thought you did?

Now if the kids were real young then fine, but 13, 14 etc they already know or have seen a enough by then. Whats the difference between 24 on tv or Die Hard in the movies? A few full curse words or maybe a tit shot.

It depends on if I think the kid would find it interesting. At 13, I had a porno habit and knew enough curse words to get me through high school. I wouldn't torture my kid with "Shopgirl", but something like "Dave Chappelle's Block Party" would be OK. I enjoy comparing US and international ratings at IMDB. These are from Die Hard: With a Vengeance.

Peru:14 / USA:R (certificate #33828) / Argentina:13 / Finland:K-15 (DVD version) / Australia:M / Canada:18A / Finland:K-16 / Germany:16 / Iceland:16 / Ireland:15 / Netherlands:16 / Norway:15 / Portugal:M/12 / Singapore:NC-16 / Spain:18 / Sweden:15 / UK:15 (cut)

that is interesting. It looks like only America and Canada are for 18+. Just shows how we try to shelter our kids and every other country thinks kids are not kids at 14,15 ,16.

The funny thing about ratings is they are not a law and its up to the movie theatre owners to decide who they let in. The ratings are only a guide for parents.
