one time i was really high and i was laying in bed and it was dark except for these sweet christmas lights and suddenly it hit me...
every relationship i've ever been in has been exactly the same. they start the same, they're pretty much the same in the end and they unfortunately ended very similar ways.
i did not learn from history. that was it

I sort of did, I guess. I was sitting in jail after getting busted with cocaine. I pretty much decided I didn't ever want to be in jail again (though, after that 30 day stint, I still had to do another 15 days for a crime I had already committed). All I could think about was getting a good hamburger.
It's been almost 8 years, now. I haven't done any coke. I didn't smoke any pot for the two years of probation. I smoked it again for about another year after that. I finally got annoyed with the illegal aspects of getting and smoking it, and haven't had any in about 3 or 4 years.
Shit... I hardly even drive over the speed limit, now. I can't, for the life of me, figure out why people go to jail, get out, then do shit that gets them put back in again. I guess jail doesn't work on stupid people.

F_S Has Never Had A "Positive" Epiphany, Where An Angel Came Down And Revealed A Universal Truth. Fat Would Like To Have One Of These, Though!
Unfortunately, F_S Has Had Two "Negative" Epiphanies...Which Is Really Another Way To Say "Hitting Bottom".
One Related To The Way He Lived After He Got Out Of College And Waking Up In A Roach (Both Kinds) Filled Room In A "Boarding House" In Utter Filth With Complete Strangers, And Saying "I Can't Live Like This; Is This What I Went To College For? This Is Not An Acceptable Way To Live!" He Moved Out, Got A New Job, And Got A Fresh Start On A Career Path.
The Other Came Later In Life, And Like Yours, Involved The Police, And Like You F_S Won't Discuss It. But It Did Cause Him To Re-Evaluate Some Behaviors, And To Make Changes For The Better.
If You've Gotten A Push In A Positive Direction, Even Though It Came From An Incident With The Police, It Will End Up Being A Good Thing!

Make sure it stick, budday. While drunk, I went through a checkpoint on my birthday back in '98. The cop let me go. I ended up getting pulled over for dui on my very next birthday in '99, and the cop DIDN'T let me go. Haven't driven drunk, since.

I bet if you could somehow get in contact with that cop again and tell him how much it effected you, he would feel very good knowing he made a difference. He might even tell other cops who in tern may do the same.

One day about 6 years ago, I literally woke up and realized that I could completely change my career and do something completely different. My wife thought I was crazy. She said, "I've never heard you say you wanted to do that ever." I said that didn't matter. I did it, she supported me, and now I rock the fat ass in my new career.
I have to remember to thank her for that today.
When I was 30 I did. I realized that worrying about my love life was a waste of my time and that I should focus on my career goals instead by getting out of a dead-end job.

My story isn't as exciting as a potential drug bust or hitting rock bottom... however I have had an epiphany.
When I was 21 years old I was taking classes at Hunter College on 68th and Lex. On the 8th floor of the East building there is a really nice balcony that is a great place to study or talk with friends. The balcony overlooked the street below and had guard rails up, but was not closed off completely.
On one cloudy, windy day I went up there alone and the place was deserted. It was raining lightly, but I decided to still take a stroll along the small garden in the center of the balcony.
As I was walking I tripped and grabbed on to the guardrail to regain my balance. I realized had that guardrail not been there I would have fell over the balcony onto Lexington Avenue.
At that moment I realized my own mortality and that life could end as quickly as a simple one misstep.
I've definitely changed since that moment and realized that life is precious and the smaller things in life don't really matter because death is inevitable.

word.
i've not had any epiphanies, but i've received small bits of illumination from time to time. nothing major, but just an insight into how things work in the world, about god, or about myself.
most of the time i forget before they couse me to make any major changes, but i remember this one "universal truth" : girls love to dance

Wow I was going to come and post a funny line about an old car I had but I see the serious nature of how everyone is taking and will respect that.
Best of luck to all:thumbup:

well, today is the first day of my new perspective. i really need to improve my life in a number of aspects and need to get rid of the negative influences. it's encouraging reading others posts on this, no matter what the circumstances have been.
