Since Louis has moved from California to NY and has been on O & A 3-4 times in the past 2 weeks and now he is doing a 3 hour show Saturday July 7th, is he now semi-4th mic? Also, is this a permanent slot or just a one time shot to see what he can bring to XM without O & A?

From wht I understand, he did move to NYC from Cali. I believe Jimmy mentioned it a few weeks ago. I cannot be 100% sure though, but I believe it is true. He lived in D.C. and in Mass. for a while and getting gigs in NYC is probably easier than L.A.

I actually think Loius has become one of my favorites that has ever been on the show. I think he fits in great, knows when to speak and knows when to be quiet, and he brings the filth which is hysterical.
And I am very happy he is getting a Sat Night virus show. i think that the more live programming on the channel the better. and as the shows get better, it might motivate Xm to sign a few of them permantly

I figured I would post this in the politics and current events thread. I have a feeling that this will basically steer off course from what its intentions are. I know alot of musicians are on the whole save the earth campaign but do you really think Ludacris is really focused on this whole topic? Plus it will probably turn into the whole US tortures, end the war, end capitalism etc.
If they really are concerned about the environment then why are they going to have pyros blasting up into the air. Did they ever think how much electricity is going to be wasted from all these acts.
This is basically going to be another corporate sham when its all over and done with. 6 dollar waters for sale. half the acts dont even give a fuck about the environment and basically a big money making scheme

You know what? Rip the hippies all you want for their intention to save the world, but at least they are getting off of their asses to raise awareness. That's all the event is at the end of the day...a way to raise awareness about environmental issues. And is that such a bad thing?
As for their concern about the environment, this is directly off of their website (http://www.liveearth.org/event.php):
With support from the U.S. Green Building Council, creators of the LEED Green Building Rating System, Live Earth will implement new Green Event Guidelines. All Live Earth venues will be designed and constructed by a team of sustainability engineers who will address the environmental and energy management challenges of each concert site, as well as the operations of sponsors, partners and other Live Earth affiliates. Each venue will not only be designed to maintain a minimum environmental impact, but will showcase the latest state-of-the-art energy efficiency, on-site power generation, and sustainable facilities management practices.
Sounds like they are certainly putting their wallets where their mouths are to me. Next time you wanna rip someone for their credibility, try doing the slightest bit of research.

Well, here's a different perspective on the "greeness" of the event.
Clickety clack, don't talk back (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/femail/article.html?in_article_id=466775&in_page_id=1879)
Well intentioned as it may be, it's just like when Barbara Streisand tells "the common folk" to cut back on their energy consumption on her blog while her home takes no less then 4 industrial AC units to cool it in the summer.
And all the accolades goto Al Gore, the biggest hypocrite of them all. As bad as you progressives complain about "war profiteering" with Haliburton (and you do have a point and a valid argument) the same goes with this dirtbag making money off his "carbon offset" company that assuages the guilt of the filty rich who make no effort in conservation.
Can't stand the thought of giving up your Learjet to reduce your "carbon footprint?" Send Gore's company some money, and he'll plant a few trees and invest the rest into one of his Alternative Energy companies.

A proposal for Gore to appear at concerts in Britain and America on the same day - something that Phil Collins, the Genesis drummer and singer, was able to do at the original Live Aid in 1985, courtesy of Concorde - has been dropped because of the anger that the 'gas-guzzling' flight would provoke.
Another inconvenient truth? A gee gee gee gee gee!

It is if you "pretend" to care, but are just as bad a scumbag as the Vice President.
Yeah, then its the same.
Well I'll try to quote sources that aren't a conservative British tabloid.
First, yes, naturally in an event this large there are carbon imprints from moving people. That is a simple reality, but it is a minor imprint when you consider what we can all do if we reduce a bit of our imprint in our daily lives.
Beyond that singular point, that article has nothing. Well, other than the fact that Madonna is a greedy whore, with pictural evidence. (How tabloid-ish). Plus her personal portfolio is a trainwreck in terms of her carbon imprint. I will never defend her.
As for the events themselves they have set up guidelines which include (http://www.forbes.com/feeds/ap/2007/07/05/ap3887916.html): "all electricity that powers the shows will be from renewable sources; concessionaires will be encouraged to use suppliers of biodegradable plastics; waste will be minimized through recycling and reuse; venue offices will use as little energy as possible; production lighting will include the use of LED light bulbs; staff and artist air travel will be offset through carbon credits; and ground travel will be by hybrid or high-efficiency vehicles where possible."
And the scope of the event is to RAISE AWARENESS about the environment. It is estimated that over 2 billion people will be the audience for this event. (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/main.jhtml?xml=/earth/2007/07/07/ealive107.xml) I would say that is a pretty good rate of exposure for a worldwide concert. They are doing their job.
The goal of the affair according to Al Gore: "Live Earth will ask people across the world to commit to changes in their lives and to move other people, communities, companies and governments to reduce our carbon output by 90 per cent by 2050 and ensure there is a new, global treaty on climate change by 2009."
Honestly, I don't see how that couldn't be a good thing.
(Why I am defending a concert I'm not even going to watch?)
So War profiteering is the same as putting money into alternative energy companies? good to know.

This right-wing smearing of Al Gore is quite tiresome. The guy is honestly trying to help the world. Would you rather he just go on the public speaking tour, bank a big bag of money and go home?

C'mon dude, you're going there? You're link was to the concert's website itself! Can't get any more biased then that.
All I did was a quick search. I had no clue what the "bias" of the newspaper over there is. In fact, I don't even subscribe to a paper. My local paper part of which can be read online here (http://www.pressofatlanticcity.com/#gallery-pane-0) is so worthless I think I get a carbon credit for not buying it.

Fair enough. My point was that the source is important and the English tabloid didn't lend an air of credibility to your argument. This should be something that all of us (myself included) always strive to do when sourcing materials.
As for my quoting the website, I only did it in terms of their claims of the concern for the environment & I told everyone it was from the official website. I didn't hide it, you all knew where it was coming from.
Here's what I don't get. Conservatives generally have this major hangup with the environmental movement. But if it's sound long-term policy (ecologically & geo-politically) and the energy companies can profit....then what's the fucking problem?

So I did a quick check over at the Native Energy (http://www.nativeenergy.com/welcome.html) website, and used it's "Carbon Offset" calculator. Apparently, a round trip from my home to Orlando costs me 24 dollars to pay my dues to mother earth for the .624 tons of carbon my minivan put into the atmoshere.
Why is this bullshit? I'll tell you. The company gets free money from suckers who buy into this "carbon footprint" sermon. Not investors, plain old ham 'n' eggers who want to do something positive. And the celebrities performing, get to tell you, the audience, how you are bad for the enviroment, and they the enlightened ones, are good people because even though they are putting an estimated 220,000 tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere for this one event alone, and burning thousands of gallons of non-renewable fuel that we will never be able to get back, the local concert venues will be creating sewage and trash (some of which in fairness will be recycled, except in NJ) that will be put into landfills and tax the local water treatment plants. (which will use more energy!) But that's okay, because Native Energy is going to one day with the money they get from the ticket sales of the concert, build a windmill farm or finance a methane plant or something. How? They haven't said. When? It's a mystery to me. But I'm sure the board of directors over there will make sure they get their cut of the profits as quickly as possible.
Carbon offset companies are the equivalent of snake oil salesmen. Buy into their BS, and you can (guilt-free) burn all the fossil fuels you want, and create as much trash as you ever have. Just give this company some money, but the only return you'll get from your investment is peace of mind-the portfolio is reserved for the "enlightened few" who I'm sure will spend the money you gave them wisely. After all, they're enviromentalists!

It's a tough argument, especially when I'm real big on alternative fuels and such.
The sticking points I have with people like Al Gore are:
1. The continuous Harping on America's energy consumption, while ignoring China and India who's government and citizenry have absolutely no concern for the enviroment at all, nor do they have any incentive to change their ways.
2. The Lockstep adherence to failed policies such as insisting we join the Kyoto Treaty, which exempts the above named countries. Even if America becomes 100% green, and every bit of energy we use becomes renewable, all that does is transfer the pollution of the atmosphere to other regions of the earth, and fossil fuel consumption will still continue to be a major world problem that will be dealt with with military action. Always has, always will.
3. The name calling. I as a Republican am sick and tired of being told I and my party ALONE are the problem, and if we just elect more Democrats, we can save the world! That's is hypocrisy at it's highest. Here in New Jersey, Governor Corzine just signed into law (http://www.pressofatlanticcity.com/top_three/story/7489597p-7385126c.html) a bill that will force companies that do business in New Jersey to reduce their energy use arbitrarily without explaining to us how we are to do it, or how the state is to help.
The legislation requires the state to reduce global warming gases to 1990 levels by 2020, and to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 80 percent below 2006 levels by 2050.
Meanwhile, the Governor has been quietly holding up construction of an ethanol plant in Bridgeton, NJ to pay back the unions in North Jersey in charge of the refinery workers.
But as long as he signs a piece of paper forcing New Jersey businessmen and women to be green (and pay for it themselves) he's an enviromental hero! YAAAAY!
Listen, I have come around to being green. I have a pickup truck that is a four cylinder motor, 2WD instead of 4WD so I don't tear up the fire trails I ride on, it get 25 MPGs and can run off of ethanol. I hate running my air conditioner, because I know that the bill at the end of the month is stupid high, and I also don't like the idea of putting that much more strain on the power grid.
Flourescent lighting throughout the house for common areas that stay lit more then other places, and so on and so forth. And there are a lot of conservatives like myself who want to do things like this and compromise. It's just unfortunate that the progressives in power are unwilling to do the same thing, IMO.

And that's where you and I agree. I'm sick of the Shell commercials telling me how they are spending 8 billion dollars over 10 years to "explore" alternative energy when in one fiscal quarter they pocket 20 billion after taxes and dividends. It's disgusting.
People like Willie Nelson are groundbreaking pioneers in alternative energy, and more and more people like him are doing the work that is going to make real change.
I worked with a guy who is now doing a bangup job installing solar and wind power generators at private homes and small businesses. It's awesome. I'm hoping one day to be able to have a windmill in my backyard.
I have a friend in Maine who's stepdad has his whole farm running organically and also gets enough electricity from his windmill to be able to sell electricity to the power company.
We need more of that, and instead of the bullshit tax breaks Bush gave so that "farm equipment" such as Ford Excursions and GM Hummers could be bought and written off by small businesses these types of investments should be rewarded by the states and federal government.
It's just this concert bugs me. I'll probably watch part of it, because I love The Police and Sting has been a big greenie years before it was hip (Deforestation of Central and South America) It just reminds me of when my brother in law went to see his doctor the first time his lung collapsed from being a 3 pack a day smoker, and the doctor telling him to quit smoking while lighting up a Marlboro (I shit you not!)

Not all of them. Some are doing this with enthusiasm, some are going in with the notion that even though they are not "helping" the enviroment by performing, the hope is that more people will be aware of the problem and do something about it.
Good intentions aside, I don't think this concert will do much. It's not like a fundraiser type deal like Live Aid was.

Rock group Arctic Monkeys have become the latest music industry stars to question whether the performers taking part in Live Earth on Saturday are suitable climate change activists.
"It's a bit patronising for us 21 year olds to try to start to change the world," said Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders, explaining why the group is not on the bill at any of Al Gore's charity concerts.
"Especially when we're using enough power for 10 houses just for (stage) lighting. It'd be a bit hypocritical," he told AFP in an interview before a concert in Paris.

I chuckle at all the fossil fuel being wasted to put on this thing.
i get the irony, but if they can increase awareness and demonstrate the public's commitment to ignorant politicians, than the energy used to put on the concerts isn't wasted any more than eggs are wasted in making a cake
the underlying philosophy in "green thinking" isn't whether the earth's temperature has gone up .4 degrees or that we're using non-renewable resources. its undeniable that we are just not living harmoniously with nature as we had for 150k years. we are an entity that is having a one-directional impact (consumption & extraction) on every other component of the planet. it's not right to take, burn, and give back only pollution.

It is important that you have well known people speak for a cause because others can relate when they see a famous person but other people will also tune out because they do see the hypocrisy in it. That makes for the potential of the 2 groups canceling each other out.

Sticking with the music size of this, there's very little heat for Live Earth.
The musical lineups just aren't there for this, and there's only a handful of people even worth hearing outside of the London and New York shows.
I'm recording the London show from 8:30 to 2 ET and the whole New York show on my Inno.
Kind of curious to hear how the Pumpkins sound...anyway, Foo Fighters are on right now on the London stage.

Except two things:
1) 8,000,000 more times talent at Live Earth. And I'm not even a huge fan of the all around lineup, but you still get The Police, Pumpkins, Beasties, Wolfmother, Chris Cornell, Red Hot Chili Peppers, DMB, John "Did they tell you this was John Mayer" Mayer, and of course the best performance of the day...Spinal Tap.
2) It's pretty clear that this show is to raise global warming awareness...what ambiguous black hole of a cause is the Hannity Freedom Tour for other than 'Hannitizing' more people.

I agree.
Sorry if I gave a contrary impression.
The good thing about Hannitization is that the glassy-eyed zombies whose heads loll back and forth like Terry Schiavo watching a balloon bring that bullshit Manatee, Limpbaugh, O'Really and Dreck feed them to message boards and get pummelled when the facts are known.
Even better is they never seem to learn that their right-wing sites give them bogus information which makes jackasses out of them.

Springsteen has a habit of attaching himself at the hip to the headliner. My guess is he walks on with Roger Waters or The Police, or makes an appearence in the big sing-a-long at the end. Or he'll do an unannounced set.

If that's the case then it was a mistake. They didn't even sell out Giants stadium. I assume that part of the ticket money would go to the cause so you want to sell as many as possible.
I'd much rather have watched the Antarctica band playing behind a thousand strong penguin orgy than that.

As for the last time he did this, when I was at the Veritgo tour for U2 in Philly, he walked on. I think that's the last one I remember. I seem to remember him doing it with Pearl Jam and Jimmy Buffett (who I also hate) in the past to name a couple.

The Pumpkins were always Billy and Jimmy
James Iha only has writing credits on like five songs (and most of the five are co-writing credits with Billy). And Billy notoriously played ever instrument on Siamese Dream when they recorded the album. The guy is a lunatic.
And D'Arcy only had "Daydream"
Plus, the band fired D'Arcy before they broke up the first time for being a coke fiend.
It kind of sucks a little that James isn't in it, but he wouldn't really effect the music being written either way.

As for Duff, she had some very bad illness, it's actually the same sort of thing that's now effecting the Ground Zero workers, sarcoidosis. I hate Pink Floyd. More than the current administration. But I don't have to hear Bush rambling on Q104 every fucking morning when I'm driving to work.

Copacabana in Brazil was the largest turnout because it was free.
They were saying on XM that it was near riot-condition size, as far as the crowd went. They've shown a few clips of that concert on CNBC>

The thing about the police, which I've always liked, is that all three of them are extremely competent and talented musicians. One of Andy's solos on the Police live set is one of my favorites of all time - top 5. It's the riff from "So Lonely" on the first disc. Fucking amazing.
