Now us northerners often tease the deep south & you know what...sometimes that's not fair. But here is the problem, every time we realize the err of our ways those hillbillies do something to fuel the mockery in a whole new manner.

This time, it's the Governor of Alabama. I've never heard of Bob Riley, but honestly he must be great at parties. Apparently his state needs rain, so he has declared June 30-July 7 as "Days of Prayer for Rain".

I couldn't even make this shit up. (http://stevensonblog.tuscaloosanews.com/default.asp?item=639044)

Individual faith is wonderful. When your governor is declaring days for his citizens to "pray for rain"...that's a little kooky.

Not really. Most Presidents ask us to pray for peace. It's not like he's mandating prayer.

Isn't peace something that is within the theoretical realm of human control? Rain.....not so much.

Plus don't they already have God plenty busy with that "hating fags" business?

wouldn't it make more sense to pray for something outside of human control? ain't that the point of prayer?

If you're referring to the Phelps, I think they live in Kansas. And I think rain via prayer is more likely than peace.

About two-three weeks ago in my new home state of Georgia, the governer declared a state day of prayer for rain, the next day it rained. Of course the weather forecast had been predicting it for a few days, but damn!...what a miracle!

True, but why not pray for something good?

Not sure it's even theoretical, we've never been able to control the rain, but we've never been able to Not be killing each other. Never been a time of peace in recorded history. Ever. So, same odds as the rain, one could argue. I may even give us controlling rain an edge.

Not really, we still have the National Day of Prayer. It's not like the governor is making anyone pray.

100% true. i dont think it is strange given the amount of farmers in the state and how they need the rain.

Special Prayers for Rain Today
Mahmoud Ahmed, Arab News

JEDDAH, 10 November 2005 — Prayers for rain will be conducted throughout the Kingdom today. Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has issued a statement instructing all people to take part in the special prayers in mosques, the Saudi Press Agency reported. The prayers were ordered, following the tradition of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), due to a delay in badly needed rain.
