Yes. WYSP did it back in the day with Howard and O&A, and had pretty good success with it.
That being said, I still feel it is too soon for K-Rock to even think or consider R&F to return. The flip to music is less than a month old, and they just hired a PD. I don't think we can seriously consider R&F returning to K-Rock until at least after the summer.
Of course, that's just my opinion.

18 months. Beginning of the year 2006. Only because the ratings for free-fm were horrific.
What I'm saying is this - it's not IMPOSSIBLE for Ron and Fez to return. But you have to wait for them to get desperate. To try anything to garner some ratings. THEN you hit them over the head with Ron and Fez.
Right now, they are confident that they can turn this ship around and do something. You have to wait for failure to set in before they'll try something funky.

taking my love for R&F out of this, I would agree here from a buisness stand point. this formatt with a strong show in the morning and the music all day has worked in the NYC on that station before.
I also think that they want O&A's ratings to go up, so they will be concentrating on pushing them.

The K-Rock is not going to change anytime soon and the best chance for Ron & Fez would be on another channel. However you still have the XM issue, though if they saw a chance to add income, they would not stand in the way.
Either way, the ratings would need to be better quickly for Ron & Fez, or they would be facing the pressure O & A are right now.

Ron and Fez in no way, shape, or form would be a good fit on 101.5 for the following reasons.
1) The formatics of the station's talk. They change subjects every hour, and the majority of the subjects are Jersey related. They have to break every 15 minutes for traffic and weather. Considering you people flip out and complain over the amount of breaks Ron and Fez took on the Free-FM show, I could only imagine what would happen if they were on 101.5. R&F's flow would be ruined.
2) 101.5 doesn't like having long comedy bits take over the air.
3) The higher-ups hate the "inside humor" on the shows.

That's one way to put it. A little ice cold, but not inaccurate.
But that's something that creatives deal with all the time. It's a little "hurry up and wait". Example: I've been steadily building an awesome portfolio for a couple of years now, and it's there. It's perfect for every client that I could ever want. I've sent it to them, and they agree with me.
And now I have to wait, because they already have someone shooting that job. That's how it goes. I have to wait for the client to want to make a change, try someone new. That's the business, and to flip it around, when you're in that spot, you want the client to show you some loyalty.
So you race race race to get the perfect portfolio, perfect website, perfect reel, whatever. You get it in front of the people you want to work with. They love it. And now you wait. You keep doing your thing, and you keep sending them work. You make it so they can't help but hire you.
And when you get the call, be ready.
Frustration about this process steers many a career off the tracks.

Yeah. I'm not saying R&F aren't a good fit for K-Rock. They are. But it just feels "too soon" to anything. The climate doesn't feel right.
I mean, don't forget - R&F's biggest cheerleaders are STILL IN THE BUILDING at K-Rock, a luxury that wasn't there.

Of course, the proper thing to do would be to make one post explaining why you disagree with the plan of action, and then step away and let people make up their own minds about what they want to do. When 20% of the posts in this thread are by you, doesn't it make you think it's time to leave this thread alone?
I know you think an awful lot of your own opinions, but just because you feel so strongly, and you feel it necessary to repeat ad nauseum your reasoning to those who don't agree with you, it doesn't automatically make you right. You can argue until you're blue in the face, but most people will still follow the course of action that they think is best.
In a nutshell -- let it fucking go. Your opinion is duly noted. Now stop shitting on this thread and let people who want to be proactive and participate in this take it over.

Just curious.
How many threads on this topic has Blowhard started?
That being said, I wasn't shitting on this thread. I came up with a proactive solution (flowers) that would reinforce a positive impression of Ron and Fez fans on the new PD. I even showed I was capable of 1) creating a compromise instead of taking a hardline stance that something won't work and 2) explaining a situation why the PD would probably not be open to putting Ron and Fez on right now, and it might be a BAD IDEA to "blitz" a program director on HER FIRST DAY ON THE JOB.
I also noticed that out of all the posts you quoted, two had NOTHING to do with R&F coming back to K-Rock, and three of them were me trying to be PROACTIVE LIKE YOU ASKED.
Do you even READ my posts or just try to make me look like an ass? I'm quite capable of doing that myself. But when you fucking yell at me about being proactive and one of the posts you QUOTE is me showing I can compromise AND be proactive, that's just lame.

It's really none of your concern (if you want to control content on a board, start your own board), but I believe the answer is 2 -- the original thread that kind of went way off topic, and this one. It was fine for Blowhard to start this thread, because the phone blitz could have easily been lost in the other thread. There may be other ones threads there, but ultimately it doesn't matter. Blowhard has our blessing to start these threads and to get the listeners involved in proactively supporting Ron & Fez. If you didn't notice, Jon added a news item to the front page regarding the phone blitz.
I believe that should answer your question.

I have my own reasons for thinking your method is flawed, but I won't go in to it any further -- people can make their own choices as to what they want to do.
Think the phone blitz is a bad idea? Voice your concerns and move on or take the discussion elsewhere. Have an alternate idea? State it in the thread and move on or take the discussion elsewhere. The fact that every fifth post in this thread is yours, I think you've stated your peace. This thread isn't set up as a debate. It's to drum up support for the phone blitz. If you don't want to participate, don't. You've made your opinions clear, so move along.

Regardless, a post was put up in the past about Ron and Fez and I believe they are part of "The Virus" and both shows belong together (OandA and Ron and Fez), so there's no reason we should fight for o and A and not Ron and Fez.

I'm surprised this hasn't been spoken of on WB at all. Just found out about this browsing through today.
Regardless, a post was put up in the past about Ron and Fez and I believe they are part of "The Virus" and both shows belong together (OandA and Ron and Fez), so there's no reason we should fight for o and A and not Ron and Fez.

I love it when boards join in sweet harmony.
Best of luck with the board... maybe I will come over and play there too!
I'm all for board harmony, but once they start stealing our women, that's where I draw the line. ;)

From this thread (http://wackbag.com/showpost.php?p=1902901&postcount=4):
Ron and Fez and O and A are a natural pairing. Both parties not only complement one another, but have covered one another for years. If Ron and Fez go, the word has to go out to our fellow Pests that an action no different from the action we made for O and A should be instituted.
They are friends of the Pests and O and A and should be defended.

Thanks a bunch. We're all fans first, that's why there's no reason boards can't help each other out. There are plenty of folks out there and no one is making a killing off of running these things. We're just looking for a fun place to play and we all set different twists on the message board. We had a concept in mind and ran with it. We even had a victim of "eat your own" on day one.
Regardless, Ron and Fez have been through a lot of shit over the years and while they aren't victims of a targeted firing, at the least the management should know that these guys are really respected here, if only for future reference with the bosses.
Ron and Fez and O and A are a fantastic team and I'd like to see this develop more, especially expanding the satellite show past three hours.

I do not understand how calling to ask for a show to come back is giving anyone a hard time. If I remember, I will be making the long distance call to ask for the return of Ron and Fez to FM radio. Yes, I do pay to listen to them on XM, but I also miss the FM show which while different, was just as good, if not better, than the XM show -- I could listen without having to worry about dirty looks from my wife.

One of the problems with radio was that it became so commercially driven that the audience barely became a factor in what the programming was. These past few months revealed how corrupt these companies are and how devoted they are in force-feeding us shit. They are completely misguided and involved in short term profiteering, rather than developing an idea into a foundation. Commendable to some extent, but when they cut folks like Ron and Fez because it's simply less of a headache for them and safer, that's silly. They should know that the consumer still cares and we're not going to simply take what we're given and like it.

Since the question was asked...
Imagine it's your first day on the job. You may or may not know who Ron and Fez are. You're trying to get a feel for your job, and then you're just bombarded with your phone constantly ringing with people asking for Ron and Fez, when the main reason you were hired was to CORRECT THE MUSIC FORMAT ON K-Rock.
That's why I think it's too much and too soon. Her main priority on day 1 is to hire music DJs, not bring back a talk show.

I'll call to tell them they need to play a song that was written within the last 5 years before I entertain the thought of listening more than 1 minute per week.

It's fucking 1997 on Krock. Perhaps the worst era for music in history. Worse than the 80's.

I'll take Creed over hearing Soul to Squeeze for the 787,953 rd time.
About once a week I'll flip over to K-Rock to see what they're playing, I don't think I've heard a song from this millenium yet.

Ugh. We get it. Please go away.
BTW, if a few people send flowers, it's not going to make a difference. It represents almost nothing as far as an audience is concerned. If lots of people send flowers, it still doesn't represent more than a blip, and it's a waste of money and an annoyance because the station has to figure out what to do with a buttload of flowers. If you want to send flowers, go right ahead. No one is stopping you. I've already explained what this thread is about, yet you keep repeating the same thing. If you're hell bent on encouraging people to follow your lead, take it out of this thread. I'm not kidding.
And you're worried about the P.D.'s first day? I'm going to go out on a limb and say that she won't be fielding any of the calls herself, but will hear from the people answering the calls that there is a groundswell of support.

I like the phone blitz very much. I would like a listening thread/calling thread started on monday from the hours of the old FreeFm show 6-9 maybe we can have all the old thread buddies call the station and discuss their calls in the thread. I think we should also organize a mass mailing to the station as well. Flowers...eh not so much. COWBELLS...lots and lots of COWBELLS. Everyone if you can mail one or more cowbells to the station to show your support for Ron and Fez.. That I think would be show related and get the point across.
