OK- I feel somewhat guilty about this.
I can honestly say I care more for wildlife than humans. It's weird. I feel worse when I would see an animal hit by a car than a human. I am not sure why. Maybe because I feel we (humans) have intelligence and "choose" to put ourselves in potentialy dangerous situations- ie skydiving, bungee jumping etc.
We almost ask to die. I feel I have no pity for people.

Also I find it more sad when a pet dies tha a friend or relative. I break down when a pet passes but not when someone I know does...am I fukd up?

I think a qualifying part of this question would be that wildlife knows no evil, while there is part of humanity consumed by it, however small that part may be. Humans can do some pretty wicked things, are doing some pretty wicked things. Wildllife are innocents. Humans have the brain, are cunning and devious. Who do I care for more? My cat just got taken by a coyote and it bummed me out. But if a good friend of mind died, it would bum me out much, much more. I believe wildlife and humans are interconnected and rely upon each other in the same ecosystem. I care about both.

I agree with you 100% ppanda. I remember during/after hurricane Katrina I was completely devastated by the thought of all the dogs that were killed or trapped by the flood. Whenever they would show a clip of a Lab or a Pit on a porch without any food or clean water I could break out in tears.

But oddly enough, even by dog-centric compassion has it's boundaries: I really don't give a shit about small dogs at all! When I was freaking about I was only thinking about dogs that were 50lbs and over. Where the hell does that come from?

So sorry to hear about your cat hedges.

I feel the same way a lot of the time. I think a big part of it is that a human can convey their pain and suffering through words, so you understand what they are going through. But I have no idea what an animal is going through.

Awhile ago I was pondering the question "what in this world is worth saving?" Like if I had to come up with a reason for this experiment to continue, what would be the first thing that came to my mind? It took me 3 days to come up with the answer of "Puppies" (and kitties following soon after). So I think I have to side with wildlife.

yes they are. have you never seen the video of the bear, who the guy raises from a cub because it's mother died, and it turns on him. if it were not for him, that little fucker would be dead. instead, it waited 6 years for its chance to rip his face off.

Yeah, But They'll Kill You For Fun, Or Cause You Look Different, Or For The $1.50 In Your Pocket. What's Worse?

probably the human there, but the point was being made that animals never turn on you. that was deftly refuted by nick.

Although rare, there has been incidences of cannibalism amongst chimpanzees.

"Betrayal" has also been observed amongst the wild chimpanzees. Not the sophisticated definition of betrayal we humans have come to know but betrayal in a very biological sense stemming from the alpha-male/survival of the fittest society we can trace our roots to, as can dogs and pigs. It's no wonder the great apes are our closest relatives.
