I would choose Die hard, I love Full Metal Jacket, but I am a Sucker for Harry Ellis and Hans Gruber

This one's easy. Watch the first hour of Full Metal Jacket then flip over to Die Hard.

gvac is good, gvac is wise. as good as both movies are fmg is really best in the beginning and dh is best toward the end.

Wow. That might be the perfect solution. You get the boot camp section of FMJ, which is really the best part of the movie, and skip all the setup with John McLane and his wife Holly, the Christmas party in the Nakatomi Towers, Argyle waiting in the garage with the limo, John McLane making fists with his feet etc. that we've already seen a bunch of times.

Full Metal Jacket, not even a question. Why is everyone so down on the second half of FMJ? Highly underrated.

I have this same problem when Tootsie and Mrs. Doubtfire are on at the same time.

I'm with you on FMJ's 2nd part. When Joker pulls out his 45 and is torn between wasting the bitch or not...
That whole sniper sequence is intense!

Then I'm up until 2 in the morning because they are going to show Hamburger Hill next!

while the second half of fmj is good, it doesn't pack the same punch as boot camp.
i mean i love the movie , just first part favorite kid, 2nd part maybe i smack around alittle bit.

I COMPLETELY agree!!! Its almost as good, if not better, than boot camp

You get:

Animal Mother's psychotic mumblings, the Marine Colonel outside of Hue, Joker's comeback to the Captain ("Does this mean Ann-Margret's not coming?"), the infamous "how do you stop five black guys from raping a white chick" joke, RAFTERMAN, the nutjob on the bird ("I got me 157 dead gooks killed!"), and ton of other great Joker lines ("I wanted to be the first kid on my block with a confirmed kill")

Ive been saying for YEARS the second half of that movie doesn't get its just due

As long as we're splicing films ...

I'll take the beginning of Apocalypse Now and cut to Platoon before we get to cow chopping.

Then I'll take the beginning of Blazing Saddles and cut to the end of the Marx Brother's A Night at the Opera.

Then I'll take the beginning of Return of the King and the end of Goldeneye.

Finally, for the ultimate horror experience, I'll watch the beginning of Return to Oz and the end of Aliens II.

I think the movie was trying to suggest something about the duality of man. You know, the Jungian thing.

At least they're playing with their toys, and not themselves.
Which reminds me, I knew this one kid...

Man...that is so tough...

I give a slight edge to Slapshot, better supporting cast (even though Rodney and Ted Knight are incredible, the kid who plays Danny is awful, but I do have a soft spot in my heart for D'Annunzio)...Its just got too many really funny scenes (and no dumb gopher), and its also a brilliant satire

Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: Are you quitting on me? Well, are you? Then quit, you slimy fucking walrus-looking piece of shit. Get the fuck off of my obstacle. Get the fuck down off of my obstacle. Now. Move it. I'm going to rip your balls off, so you cannot contaminate the rest of the world. I will motivate you, Private Pyle, if it short-dicks every cannibal on the Congo.

Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: What's your excuse?
Private Cowboy: Sir, excuse for what, sir?
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: I'm asking the fucking questions here private. Do you understand?
Private Cowboy: Sir, yes, sir.
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: Well thank you very much, can I be in charge for a while?
Private Cowboy: Sir, yes, sir.
