It's a movie about the failed assassination attempt on Hitler when a German war hero from the Eastern Front (he had lost an eye and at least one limb, hence the eyepatch on Cruise) attempted to put a briefcase bomb near Hitler during a staff meeting. Unfortunately, someone moved the bomb behind one of the heavy oak table's thick legs and he escaped with relatively minor injuries. The officers who planned this had a whole coup set up once Hitler was kaput...I could be wrong, but I think Rommel was ultimately caught up in the frenzy of arrests after the plan failed and that's why he ultimately was given the "choice" of suicide.
Cruise is a spazzy douche, but I'm damn interested to see this flick.

You're not mistaken. He knew it was going to happen, and was quite surprised when Hitler survived. There have been a few really good documentaries on it on the History Channel. I think a big budget movie about this has some good potential.

How long before someone quotes this and changes Lange to Bridges?

Very Funny, Boys. Not! F_S Was Born A Full 18 Years After The Original King Kong. But It Is Still His Favorite. He Did Not Like The 70's One, And He Wanted To Love The Jackson Version (Which Is The Last Movie He Was Referring To), And He Did Love Parts Of It, But He Found It Highly Disturbing. He Has Some Theories Why It Was Disturbing, But It Is Three Years To Late To Discuss This Movie.

Hating the Germans so much? How so? Did they piss in your mouth or something?
I think the German gov't was making a huge deal over this was morely having Cruise play a German character, but IRL he's a scientologist. I recall them being very against that "religion"
and doing what they can to remove it from their country, of course Scientology fighting back to keep it there. Then again I can be wrong on some things, but shit Tom Cruise hasn't really been good since The Last Samurai.
Edit: I'm a huge WWII history fan, but I might only catch this once it's out on DVD or InDemand.

Except that that picture was taken before production on the film began and John Travolta was cropped out of it wearing a Mousselini outfit and a splint on his cock. Scientology is even weirder than we thought.
