How do you find a good tattoo artist? There are tons on the internet and in the phone book, but how can you tell if they really are good?
Also, is there an easy way to find a Scarification artist? I have had very little luck tracking somebody down.
What do you look for? Is there any kind of "Certification" I should look for.
The Tat (or scar) I want to get is essentiall a simple line design (for now), however I still want to find someone that knows what they are doing.

Go people watching. When you spot people with tattoos that look admirable, POLITELY stop them and ask to see it closely and ask where they had it done. Do not grab their arm to look, that is rude and will get you bitchslapped.

Head to the Lion's Den II in New Hope, PA. I have had all of my work done there and am very satisfied.
My sister has beautiful half-sleeves she gets done by a guy in Central NJ, but that may be too far for you to drive.
You want to find a tatoo shop where they employ real artists, not just someone who copies and traces designs to your skin. A trace is necessary for the gist of the piece, but a true artist will give subtle depth and character to a tat by their use of color, black, and especially white ink. My favorite tats are shades of black with white, not just blank skin, highlights. When an artists does this well, the effect has lots of impact.

That is exactly what I am looking for! The design is simple, but I don't just want it to be black ink. I want it to be "jazzed up" a little, with some depth and flair.
Thanks for the heads up.

Don't be afraid to travel if you find something you really like - remember, tats are more or less permanent, so you have to make it count. My boyfriend went back to Florida to get his second tatoo because he liked the guy so much. He waited until his vacation plans took him back there again. He has a dream catcher with a wolf's head howling under the full moon, done all in black with white highlights. It's so beautiful!

I have 4 tats, 1 that is really detailed is the flower on my back and it was freehand. I completely trust my artist, since I've known him for years, we grew up together. Bottom line, you need to do your research, go to some tattoo shows thats the best place to see some of their work and talk to a lot of people.

I have my fair share of skin art. First I would ask to see some of their work. All tattoo "artists" keep a portfolio. Look for something that resembles what you want so you get an idea of what the guy/girl can do. Next you want to look at the studio. You are dealing with needles and blood. Make sure they sterilize the gun and use new needles every time. If the shop looks like a dump chances are they might end up f'ing up your tatt.
Good luck and post some pics.

Im gonna guess that a lot of people have knocked you down and attempted to "ride the ferret," no wonder you hit so much!
