So some caller calls in yesterday or the day before to O&A and talks about the horrible home invasion in Connecticut.
Jimmy asked if they released the race of the suspects and the guy said he couldnt find it and Jimmy said something similar to "ofcourse." Him and Anthony went on to say lets wager on what race it is and they both agreed they would be betting with each other, not against. Jimmy and Anthony had their "angry at the media for not releasing the race of suspects" tone on him.

Much worse than what Imus did. There was no humor in this and they were basing the hate and anger (A good amount at the media) in their voice on what a caller said.

I am going to defend them here. They were pointing out that usually when the news does not mention a race, they're talking about a black guy and Jimmy and Anthony will not hesitate to point out that fact. And I'm also pretty sure that they changed their idea on who did it once they heard the names.

Are you saying that the media doesnt usually "neglect" to mention that someone is black when theyre suspected of a crime?
I didnt hear it, but based on your account, it sounds like they thought the media knew the races, and due to past experiences with the media omitting this, suspected that ONCE AGAIN the media was afraid to mention it due to a world over run by political correctness.
Sounds like their comments were in disgust toward a cowering media, not against a race of people.

But they were basing this on a caller scanning over an article and taking that as fact.
Are you saying that the media doesnt usually "neglect" to mention that someone is black when theyre suspected of a crime?

But what makes them think they know the race. You probably know more than me Chris but the raping of people under age tends to be done by poor people that, statistically, are usually white, I don't think arsen is a "black crime," and a burglary in a secluded upper class neighborhood in Connecticut doesnt usually lend to a race relation to the statistics of it.
Why would they think the media knew the race but arent saying it? Because a caller said it didnt say the race? You know O&A are usually skeptical of anything their listeners say. Some members of the show strike me as old white guys out of touch who only "know" black people that are comedians. Especially when Anthony does a race joke and it bombs and he follows it up with a laugh from himself.
I have never agreed with them on this issue and they always, IMO, come off as racist. I don't recall reading articles where suspects are identified by race unless race was a factor in the crime or it is a huge story. And that goes for white, black, latino, anything. Where they do have a point is that race motivated black on white crime is often ignored. But when they just read off horrendous crimes on a regular basis and then go "Oh, I wonder what race this guy belongs to?' how could they come off as anything other than racist?

Agree. On the black on white hate crime, it happens, not as much as the reverse but it still happens and the media tends to ignore it.
They made a big deal out of the Juneteenth thing here in Texas where someone was killed on the day by a mob after running over a kid. It came off as racist as they were saying it involved the Juneteenth celebration and that you never see anything violent with the st. patricks parade. YET the police said it had NOTHING to do with the Juneteenth celebration and wasnt even near it. No irish people having killed anyone on St. Patricks day?

Though I agree there's no reason to identify the race if the person has already been caught, it should be done when they're on the run. So often, Channel 4 in DC will say there's a rapist (or whatever), and for a description, they'll give the height and weight, but not the skin color. Come on... If you want people to be able to spot the guy, say what he looks like!

Couldn't agree more. Since getting XM, I have been trying to get into the O&A groove, but have now finally decided that there is no groove, they are just racist, mean spirited dicks. Their brand of "cutting" humour is in bad taste - period. The racist stuff just confirms that they are a waste of flesh. The Terry Schivo stuff the other day, not to mention the jokes about Tammy Faye as she was dying are way overboard. I mean come on, once someone realizes that they were making fun of a cancer patient as she was dying should cause most people to lay of it for a at least a little while. The 3 jackasses were right back at it the next day, and even said they were glad that she died and they were glad they mocked her to her death. I am no fan of Tammy Faye, but come on here. Common decency should prevail sooner or later.
In the words of Jimmy, "I hope they all die". Maybe then someone can make fun of them while their family tries to mourn.
I know I will get the "just change the channel asshole!" responses, I have. If it weren't for R&F I would have packed in my subscription to XM already and picked up Sirius. Not only do they NOT have the dickheads on their programming, they actually have more than 2 adult humour talk shows.

Agree 100% RYNO. All O&A do now on XM is bitch and call it in and do nothing for 2 hours. Oooooooooooooh our numbers are waaaaaaaaaaaaaay up in NYC. That's on regular radio, how about XM??? E-Lo said that they are the #1 channel on XM, I would beg to differ. I would bet more people listed to ESPN, Fox Sports, any news channel, more than 202.
They get suspended for making a reference about Condolezza rice and rape, but they blame E-Lo for the suspension because they apparantely talked about JV and Elvis, but the cancer jokes and Shiavo referrences are okay? It doesn't matter to me what they talk about, they couldn't offend me if I was sitting next to them. Change the channel, turn the station, is that all they can say???? Together for 14 years and Opie doing radio for 20+ years and that is the best retort. Their time has past.

Well, I'm not just referring to when black people are present. What I mean is, I don't think Op, Ant or Jimmy encourage or desire genocide, or taking away voting rights etc...I think that they have a disdain for the cultural traits, as blacks do toward whites, or any other race does for any other race regarding what they think is appropriate, inappropriate or just plain stupid. Sure, the stereotypes get the best of us all, ie them thinking those two murderers were black, but I don't think they are racists.

What, you didn't like my joke? Psh, if you don't agree with my posts, why not flush your computer down the toilet?
The whole "all or nothing" idea of listening is asinine. Yes, there are plenty of people who don't like O&A at all, but some of us just don't like certain parts of the show. Why is that such a problem? I've yet to come across any kind of media...film, TV, radio, whatever...that is somehow magically perfect. Combine that with having audiences made of individual people as opposed to some kind of same-thinking hive mind, you're going to get people with different opinions about different part of the show.
I find it ridiculous to think people can only watch or listen to things that they 100% "agree" with. I think the odds of that actually being reality for anyone are slim to none, so the idea that someone can't or shouldn't listen because they disagree with or don't like parts of a show is an extreme overreaction. Neither R&F nor O&A put on perfect radio shows that everyone loves everything about, so I don't see the reason for jumping all over people for not liking aspects of either show. There's a difference between trolling just to piss people off and saying, "I don't like this part of this show because..."
It's not the end of the world if people don't like everything about O&A.

I don't love every bit either. But, when they talk to Big A, Twitchels, or just start to do something I'm not really enjoying, I change the channel.
It's not a big deal to me. But, the original poster sounds like someone that's been sitting around just hoping for the race to turn out this way. Sounds like someone with a grudge and an ulterior motive. Why would this person bother? Why would they subject themselves to the horror that is a comedy show that is so full of hate speech and racism, in their mind?
That's my point. I am far from an all or nothing listener. I didn't listen to much of the doodie wars either. I thought that was stupid stunt boy radio and think it's beneath AFRO as a whole.
Some people like it, that's cool with me. But, did you see me snapo up on the message board and cry about it? No I was here crying about this and other stuff like the big baby I am.

I really didn't see him talking it up that dramatically...not even close. He was taking issue with one specific talking point, not painting them as horrible hatemongers.

Right, and I think that's people are doing here. It's not an all out attack on O&A or trolling them or anything. It's just something one listener noticed and some of us agree with.

Reverse it. I think it's ridiculous to get as mad as a lot of O&A fans do at people who don't love the same things they love about the show.
While the whole "if you don't like it, don't listen" thing gets overused, its true. If you're listening to O&A and something comes up that you don't want to listen to, don't.
But I get your point about pests thinking you either have to like all of the O&A show or none of it. I just don't get people complaining about listening to things they don't like. Why keep listening to that? Change the channel and come back.

Right, which I have problem doing, but again, choosing to not listen doesn't somehow mean you're forbidden to talk about something. That's like saying because you choose to not vote for someone you can't criticize or discuss that person. The underlying message seems to be "stop listening and shut up unless you have something good to say." No, I haven't heard the drum challenge outside of a few clips, but me not listening to it doesn't somehow make it something that didn't happen or something that I can't talk about. It's not like I'm making shit up about it, I know what it was, therefore, I wish to discuss it. This constant sentiment that the only options are "listen and approve or don't listen and shut up" are tiresome.

Its no where even close to the same thing. You criticizing a politician is usually because they can be directly involved with your life. Opie, Anthony and lil' Jimmy Norton put on a radio show, that has no effect over you. You can choose whether or not to listen to it. They are going to do what they want. I never understand people complaining about a radio or tv show. Its not YOUR fucking show, its THEIR show. If you don't like what is on it, just don't watch or listen. Stop complaining about it. Not everyone is supposed to have the same views as you. Let the people who enjoy it actually enjoy it.

Well, not every politician effects your life, but even if the analogy doesn't hold, I still am baffled by the idea that people seem to have that my random and anonymous criticism of certain parts of O&A show is someone damaging the show or negatively impacting the listening of people who do like it. I can flip the exact same argument around that you're giving me...don't like our criticism? Don't come into the thread! Nobody is forcing you to look at it.
That said, however, I think that's a cop-out rationale which is pointless. People should feel free to discuss meaningless crap like music and radio and TV and movies, good or bad, without some people taking it like their mother is being chain-whipped by a biker gang. Who cares if someone doesn't like all of O&A's show? What is so terrible about someone voicing their opinion about something they don't like?

But I don't really see anyone doing that here. The poster that started this thread was talking about a specific aspect of the show when they talk about certain types of news stories, and it split into different seperate tangents about other parts of the show that some of us don't like. It's not like someone ran in here screaming that they're racists and they need to be beaten and thrown off the air.
Who cares if radio show hosts aren't infallable?
Look, bottom line, this thread started off very clearly with the tone and topic it was establishing. None of us invaded another O&A thread to try and make it negative. Reading the first post, anyone can know exactly what this thread is about. So long as people that disagree with the idea presented keep posting here (and there's no reason why they shouldn't), the continued "if you don't like it, don't listen" holds absolutely no water whatsoever.

Criticism is fine. Its when people turn that criticism of something they don't like or don't even listen to into a mission of trying to take something off the air. If you're just complaining, you may be wasting your breath, but you're not really effecting anyone.

Me neither. I just kind of get annoyed at the underlying idea that something about this thread is "wrong"...not in terms of the opinions, but just that it exists in the first place since it's mostly about parts of O&A's show some people don't like. It always comes back to the whole "don't listen and don't say anything negative" way of thinking that drives me bonkers. It's these circular line of self-deating logic....if you like the show, listen...but if it's something you don't like, don't listen...but if you don't listen, you can't say anything negative...if you do say something negative and you listen, stop listening. While I agree with the latter part, I think trying to paint the former as, "oh, they just want the media to be more accurate with their descriptions so we can be safe" is an incredible stretch. I have ears, I've heard them do this bit plenty of times...they're going for the cheap joke. Which is cool. I'm not telling anyone what they can and can't like, I've just used this thread to express my personal opinion of the show. There's no right or wrong reaction amongst anyone in this thread towards the content of the show; just everyone's individual opinions. It's not up to you to get it, nor does someone have to explain it to you. It's completely personal opinion. I can't explain why some of the awful stuff makes me laugh and some other stuff doesn't. That's just how it is.
To me, at times on the show they cross a line between using racial stereotypes to make a joke and talking in a way that suggests they are expressing actual agreement with those stereotypes. I don't know if Anthony is racist or not, and I don't really care. But if things happen on the show that I don't think are that great, I don't understand why expressing that is such a bad thing. I'm a Yankees fan, when I think Joe Torre does something stupid, I'll express that. Nobody would say that because I don't like one thing they did, I hate that baseball team now, why can't that apply to a radio show? At the same time, I do recognize that on occasion you'll see people who seem to make it their life's mission to do nothing but bitch about something on the shows and make sure everyone knows what they don't like and why. That gets annoying, but I don't really see it here.

I think you have to roll with the show, laugh when you feel like it, and maybe disagree at certain points, but I do not see how you can be a fan and be so angry about something they said

You've never had, say a good friend or a family member who you usually always get along with and agree with say or do something that really annoyed you or pissed you off?
I don't think it's odd to have wildly varied opinions about a show that covers wildly varied topics in a bunch of different ways.

I don't understand what you want people to say. He can't control people's response to O&A's show. You keep quoting his opinions on what they were doing. What are the rest of us supposed to do?
My original point was that if he doesn't think the show is funny or isn't being funny at the time, he shoudl just cruise off to Ethel on XM or Kiss 10x.x on FM for a bit. Instead of watchdogging the show for bits that he finds offensive and deems not funny.
That was all. Then we all started acting like dicks for awhile, which I enjoyed greatly, and now this...

Actually, most of my posts have been trying to discuss the ridiculous idea of how people can only either listen and approve or change the station/turn of the radio. Why is such a terrible thing to point out parts of a show that someone doesn't like? Why are opinions that aren't, "hey, this is great" such a bad thing that bringing them up can only be met with "just change the channel?" You can ultimately apply that line of hinking to pretty much anything we encounter...so should we have no differing opinions on anything? Isn't the best way to actually have an informed opinion about anything is to actual pay attention to the subject of that opinion on some level?
I agree, if somebody hates the entire show it's ridiculous for them to keep listening...but it doesn't sound like anyone is saying that here. It's equally ridiculous to expect people to be waiting to dive and change the station when they think something they don't like might be coming up, especially with a show as free form and off the cuff as O&A's.
Bottom line, the general response to any kind of critical discussion of O&A seems to be that anything besides agreement and sharing the humor in 100% is wrong and bad and people shouldn't do it.

I think what really pissé m'au off, pardon my french, was that he seemed to be implying that Ant and Jimmy were horrible racist KKK members.
Maybe I over-reacted, I do that.

THEY ARE HORRIBLE RACISTS!!!!! Pretending that they are "joking" about it, and using the "change the channel if you dont like it" line is infantile. They are unfunny, mean spirited racists that should not be on the air.
That being said, they currently (unfortunately) have the right to spew their crap. XM has a moral responsibility to its listeners to keep hate off the air. Uncensored does not need to mean anarchy.
They blow, I hope opie gets face cancer so we can all point and laugh. Maybe we can prank call his mom on the day of his funeral. Wouldnt that be funny?
Plus these other guys belong at WB or FBA with the other loudmouth dicks.

Racial Humor : Anthony when Patrice is in Studio
Racist Humor : Anthony when Patrice isn't in Studio
Or am I the only one that sees the difference in Anthony when black phillip is in the place? Not that I blame him, Patrice is a pretty intimidating fella
Why is an obese diabetic intimidating to you? Hmm, what could it be...
