View Full Version : How's your Gaydar?

They just had this thing on the TV Guide Channel where they were talking about Clay Aiken. Some woman said how Clay could never come out of the closet because he would lose a big part of his core audience. This just amazes me that people could be so stupid. Forget the fact that they're Clay Aiken fans to begin with, or that their opinion about his musical abilities would change based on whether he was gay or not. I can't believe that there are hayseeds out there who would be oblivious to this fact.
Then again it's not that surprising, I guess. I was at a family function once and made a gay/ Rosie O'Donnell comment. This was when she still had her own morning show and was still "in the closet". Remember when she was "in love" with Tom Cruise? Anyways, my wife's aunt looks at me strange and says "Why would you say that? Have you heard something I haven't?" No, I just had my eyes open.
Hell, I once started a thread on here about something my wife said. We were watching some award show and Barry Manilow was on and my wife turns to me and says: "I wonder why Barry Manilow never married?" Are you fucking kidding me? I guess he just hasn't found the right girl yet.
How soon do you think you could tell if someone is gay? Because I have my suspicions about this one neighbor kid. He's nine years old and last Haloween he went out dressed up as a chef. C'mon, what kid wants to be a chef for Halloween? During a recent trip to a water park my son and all his friends went to play basketball, but this kid just wanted to stay with his mom and make sandcastles. I swear to you that I'm not a homophobe. I support gay rights and all. However, my son, also being nine, is at an impressionable age so I suggested maybe he shouldn't be hanging out with this kid so much. But of course my wife thinks I'm crazy. I'm just trying to avoid some sword fighting incident that my son will have in the back of his mind for his whole life.

nine year olds will sword fight whether they are gay or not. why would a gay 9 year old be more sexual than a (assumably) straight 9 year old.
you also forgot to mention the thread about the church camp counselor

Why don't you want your kid hanging out with him? Is gay contagious or something?

yeah, if you're as big on gay rights as you say it is, then I assume that you believe that people are born gay and it's not a chioce(especially not a choice a 9 year old would make) so it's not like this kid is gonna some how turn you kid gay. And really anything this kid might do with your kid, isn't going to be any more tramatic then what "hetero" kids do in a locker room on daily basis.

When your kid goes to sleep and you hear "jeebjeebjeebjeebjeebjeebjeeb" does it make you reassured he's not gay?

Now that you bring it up: Guess what starts tommorow morning at 9:00 am? That's right: Church Camp 2007!
I don't know. I'm just putting this out there to get other people's opinions. I really am pro-gay rights but I guess I do have some conflicting emotions about it.
Just to throw something else in the pot: I was raised Catholic. Our parish priest loved to take the boys out on day trips to the shore and stuff. Always came to check on us while we were changing. One day, the church "mysteriously" reassigned him to a different parish a couple of towns over. And that's all I'm going to say about that. Now discuss that.

this is quite gay, i've never heard of any kids doing this. do you have something you'd like to share with the rest of the class?
as for clay and the other stuff, a lot of people don't know openly gay folks, so it may not occur to them when they meet people who aren't out. beforei stated working in hotels/restaurants i would not have had any clue if someone was gay. looking back there are kids in high school who may have been gay, but to me they were just the preppy and/or odd kids. yeah, one or two of them were probably gay

I was so dissapointed when Boy George came out of the closet. I mean... he was OBVIOUSLY gay, but I liked the idea that he might not be. To act that gay, and be straight, would have been SO punk! At least I still have Prince.

I've always had decent gaydar for men, but sometimes, it's so obvious it doesn't even feel like i've achieved anything. on the chick side, i found myself unknowingly falling for lesbians thinking they were just really cool chicks. so now i realize that a chick's probably gay if i'm attracted to her personality

How's your Gaydar?
Mine is awful. I still think Michael Musto is straight. Even after watching this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDzBP-2Dv4w).
He starts singing "Two of Hearts" about halfway though. Its fabulous.

I think i'm fairly good at figuring out if a guy is gay. Lesbians are little more tricky for me.

At least the ones that hang out on George St in StJohns are, nothing subconscious about that.

Barry Manilow never married because Beanie ruined the "woman" experience for him.

Well that would be logical thinking if St. Johns was in Nova Scotia....but now that you mention it St. Johns is the capital of Newfoundland and isn't Fezzie a Newfie....hmmmm you may be on to something there
