I toasted 2 slices of bread and was about to spread some jam on them when "WTF???" I see a spec of mold on the bottom of the crust. Ofcourse I threw those slices away and the rest of the bread where I got it from.
But it causes me to wonder. If the mold hadn't spread to the other parts ofthe bread yet and with the bread toasted. If you scraped away the moldy part of the bread. Is that bread still good????

If I went through the rest of the loaf and saw two other slices that didnt have mold on it, I think I'd have eaten it, especially if it was toasted..

wow, I guess none of you have ever been poor college students. I might not eat the moldy pieces but I wouldn't throw the whole loaf away if the rest of it was moldy. And honestly if I was hungry enough, I'd just cut the moldy part off and eat it, it won't hurt you.

why wouldn't you cut off the moldy part, discard it, and eat the remaining bread instead?

I guess I should have said if I was hungry enough and didn't have any more bread, yeah if I had more bread I would just eat that.

You mean it's weird that I pick mold off of bread and eat the bread? Don't get me wrong. I'm not so cheap that I'd salvage a slice of Wonderbread. But if it's some good bread, and there isn't any more, I'm all over it!

i've dug deeper in the bag for an unmolded piece and i'll also cut the moldy part off a tomata and eat the rest

A few months ago at the pizza shop, I was eating a slice while working. I had to set it down for a minute. I set it down a wire rack that hadn't been dusted in a while.
One of the phone girls said, "Oh my god... You're going to eat that after it's been on that filthy rack?"
I said, "Yeah. Why wouldn't I?"
She said, "Ugh... MEN!!!"

There's no reason at all to throw away the whole loaf of bread, or even the damaged slices. Today while making my sandwich I found mold on my pita bread and scraped it off with the knife. By the way, eating the mold doesn't hurt you or anything, it just tastes a little sour.

To summarize, if you eat moldy bread and don't get sick, it's not a problem.
Duh.

Certain molds may produce mycotoxins that can cause illness. These mycotoxins are poisonous substances found mainly in grains and nuts. Moldy bread may contain bacteria that could cause a food-borne illness as well.

I bought a Blueberry Pie from trader joes, ate majority of it then found it had mold on it the entire time (not the crust but the blueberries underneath.
Nothing happened, my girlfriend called up Poison control, cause I am a scaredy cat, and they said if nothing happens within a few hours you will be fine. So yea nothing happened.
Nick is completely correct about the mycotoxins.

I did raise hell, i called them up immediately when I found the mold. They refunded my money and gave me another pie.
I do still shop there i just do not buy the baked goods.
