Tom Snyder - DEAD!

Talk show host Tom Snyder, whose smoke-filled interviews were a staple of late night television, has died after a struggle with leukemia. He was 71.

that's too bad. I only really started watching his show, right before it got cancelled and Kilborn replaced him, but I like what I got to see. I have a soft spot for a a good interview show.

Tom Synder was great...one of my all-time favorites. His style was so laid-back and conversational that you felt like he was in your home at night.

And for the record, Synder did not get cancelled, rather he didn't renew his contract, which opened the spot for Kilborn. Letterman owns that slot and loved Synder.

Not a lot of people remember that after he left NBC and before he went to CBS he briefly anchored the 11 o'clock news at WABC in New York. As I recall, they heavily promoted the fact that he was joining the newsteam but it was a ratings disaster and he was gone within months.

I feel a little guilty, but I thought they said John Snyder died and was somewhat relieved when I found out it was Tom Snyder.

I caught a few of his shows during my hardcore insomniac days and thought he had a pretty good gig. A little dry sometimes, but he was an old-school broadcaster.

Sorry to see you go Tom.

I remember Ackroyd, as Tom Snyder, shouting at Mick Jagger, "GET OFF MY CLOUD!"

Conan O'brien just said something really heart felt about him. It was cool to hear him say those things and how the show got really serious for a few minutes. Bravo Conan.

It was real classy. And you kept on waiting for something stupid to happen, but nothing did. And then the show went on. And I really think that was great to see.

I liked Tom Snyder...alot,he filled the void for a time....he really never TRIED to make you laugh..mostly he interviewed kinna like Carson..he let the guest carry the show...and smoked like a chimney.RIP.
