For about the last 2 weeks, I have attempted to go to sleep somewhere around 1 am, sans the night I went out and got to sit at the tow pound lot. For some reason, every night I am tired and every night I lay down and then I can't stop thinkin about whatever is in my head at that time and it keeps me up for hours. Sometimes it's bad stuff, sometimes thinkin about good stuff, but either way I end up laying in bed til 4 or 5 am not able to sleep. I don't wanna take meds cause I just don't want that. I use to put music on and that worked, but lately it's been waking me back up a few minutes later.
Any ideas?

do you eat late at night, or drink sweet stuff like sodas? i would cut back on that if you do. also, no tv, no radio, no books, no lights. if you get in the bed, don't try to do anything but sleep.
do you exercise during the day? that always helps me get on a regular sleeping schedule. also, some deep breathing can help you relax and keep your mind from running. just lay on your back and breathe into your stomach. maybe do some type of visualization.

Go for a long walk in the evening. I am talking miles and miles. Then take a hot shower and lay down.

History channel, while entertaining, I can never seem to stay awake for an entire show.

Exercise could probably help you out. Nothing serious, just spend about 20 minutes. Try not to do it too close to the end of the day, that can make it even more difficult to fall asleep.

I have the same issue. Nothing seems to work for me for more than a couple days for me. Alcohol while making me pass out wakes me up early. Getting to sleep stinks!!

i listen to O&A or R&F as i am falling asleep, and that always helps because it clears my head of my thoughts and i pay attention to the show.

I used to do that, but usually I hear the shows during the day, so my focus kinda shifts away from it since I've heard it.

maybe try to find a podcast or something that you might like, or try audio books

When i can't fall asleep after 5 minutes i start planning out what im going to wear to work/out the next day.
The myriad of choices usually puts me out within 10 minutes....or it just might be the dullness of my life.

It sounds corny, but I had a ton of anxiety and light sleeping until I started the fat smash diet.. Part of the diet is the detox. When I introduced coffee and a few sweets back into my diet, I noticed the anxiety and sleep problems returning.

I don't drink coffee, and I dont drink soda that much. Mostly I drink juices or snapples. But I havent changed any of eating of drinking habits since the times I wasn't having the problem.
And although I do have fat, I need to burn it into muscle, I don't think I'm heavy enough for the fat smash diet

Exercise. Cardio and weight training at least 3 hours before bed. Let your body put you to sleep. And Batch.

take a hot shower and get right into bed, that usually works.

Batching is a good shortcut to relaxing the body.
Another method is learn to meditate, simple breathing exercises. Inhale and exhale with deeply expanding your belly while relaxing your shoulders.
The hardest part is keep all the noise out of your head. While doing your breathing exercises, concentrate on your breath. Breath without pausing, keep the flow consistent.
You should try to avoid exercising an hour before you go to sleep.
The whole process will take sometime. Keep your your schedule consistent, go to bed at the same time and wake up at the same time.
