I grew up in Northern New Jersey, in the Meadowlands area, and go back occasionally. I knew they had started building this Xanadu complex but hadn't been up that way in some time. I was up there this weekend and saw this huge, oddly sloped building built next to the Continental Airlines Arena. After doing some quick research I found out that it's "America's first Snow Dome for indoor skiing". Now, I'm not a skier myself, but I don't know how much of an audience there is for that in Hudson County. Maybe if you got people from the richer parts of Bergen County to come down.

This place looks like its going to be massive ($1.3 Billion and 4.8 million square feet) and the only way they're going to make any money is if people come from all over, including NYC. The thing is I don't think the roads can handle that kind of influx. A Giants or Jets game can bring the entire area to a stand-still on any given Suday. Now you're going to have this many people going in there on a daily basis? I know they claim to be building a new rail line, which was supposed to have happened when the original Giants Stadium was built in the 70s, but who's actually going to use it?

My question for you NYC/Long Island/Connecticut people: With all the entertainment options you already have - do you see yourself crossing the river to go to this place?

Rising at the Meadowlands Sports Complex in Northern New Jersey—one of the most dynamic and affluent regions of the country—this 4.8 million-square-foot entertainment destination (http://www.meadowlandsxanadu.com/static/doc_013795.jsp) will offer visitors of all ages a broad array of engaging experiences, including interactive entertainment venues, fine dining, outdoor amusements, runway fashion (http://www.meadowlandsxanadu.com/static/doc_MX_FASHION_T7_DATA.jsp) shows and its main attraction—America's first Snow Dome for indoor skiing. Meadowlands Xanadu will also offer a luxury hotel and Class A office buildings.

That's all well and good but why do they pitch the project in colors that went out of style in the 70's? Teal Blue Orange and Yellow. AstroXanadu.

The indoor ski arena will certainly be a big hit with the Asian tourists.

There is trouble with the maples and they're quite convinced they're right. They say the oaks are just too lofty and they snatch up all the light. Well, the oaks can't help their feelings if they like the way they're made, and they wonder why the maples can't be happy in their shade.

Takes me right back to '87. *throws up the devil-horns*

I take it from the apathy with which this thread was recieved that my original suspicion has been confirmed and there is no interest in this place.

I'm not sure if the Judge is doing a callback to Coleridge or Frankie goes to Hollywood (I put the odds at 50/50) but either way

And I might go to that sports place once in my life.

Pepsi agrees to pay $100 million for naming rights to The Pepsi Globe Ferris Wheel (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB120356123507581975.html?mod=googlenews_wsj)

I'm not crazy about heights, so I think I'll pass. But this thing should give spectacular views of the majestic Hackensack River (Oh, and also the New York Skyline, if you're impressed by that sort of thing.)

The snack-and-beverage company has signed to be the first major sponsor of Meadowlands Xanadu, the mammoth shopping-and-entertainment complex in northern New Jersey. The Globe, a giant light-emitting diode, or LED, screen, will adorn the center of a 287-foot Ferris wheel that will be visible from miles away.

I live 15 minutes from that place and I'll never go there.
