(AP) A highway bridge under construction collapsed Tuesday, trapping a delivery truck under the debris and injuring a construction worker.

See, you can't even trust bridges before they're actually finished.

BRIDGE COLLAPSES IN MINNESOTA. (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20079534/)

A freeway bridge over the Mississippi River (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20079534/#) in Minneapolis collapsed Wednesday, sending many cars into the water.

Tons of concrete collapsed, and people were injured. Survivors were being carried up the riverbank.

The entire span of the 35W bridge collapsed about 6:05 p.m. where the freeway crosses the river near University Avenue.

Now Fez will never go on a bridge again.

Bridge collapsed tonite in Minneapolis during rush hour traffic. They're reporting it on FOX now, CNN may have it by now as well, but nothing online yet that I've seen.

I dont think there has been a bridge collapse like this since Oakland Bay Bridge. They are reporting people missing in water, etc. Lets wait till we get an official count and not specualtion as to whom died, is wounded, and speculation to a minimum. Rumors are death in situations like this.

Well this morning I saw this guy. He didn't really looking Middle Eastern but his skin had a slight brownish tint. He was screaming at someone on his cell phone and I couldn't really understand him. He also had some kind of odd accent. And here's the worst part: When he left he took off in the northwest direction, towards Minneapolis! I didn't call the CIA this time but I won't make that mistake again. I just hope I can live with myself.

I'm not an engineer, but it looks like it collapsed in about five separate places, almost like a dominoe effect. Like one section went and then the others followed. Short of an earthquake, which would have put stress on all the sections at the same time, I don't think that should have happened.

Poor engineering out dere in de midwest. Dey do love dere Ooooooo en Eyyyyyyy der in Minnesoda doh.

I'm in the burbs just NW of Minneapolis, and this one is gonna be a mess. They estimate 200,000 cars cross that bridge everyday. If you've been anywhere near the downtown Minneapolis area, chances are you crossed this bridge. It really is the main road through the whole state. the cell networks are in and out, but I think everyone I need to contact has been accounted for. How sad is it that as soon as I heard about this I immediately started pissing and moaning about traffic, and wondered what the "Fez-Effect" would be. I'm an asshole.

being an engineer, and haven taken a fair amount of physics and civil engineering classes, I am always amazed when these things happen. i tried to watch the news, but listen to those people speculate on what they think happened is laughable.

this is a horrible event, and i think one of the worst ways to die. my condolences go out to all the people who died or got hurt, and all their families. if anything, i hope they get to the bottom of what caused this, so in the future we can learn from it, and maybe be able to check any existing bridges to prevent further catastrophes.

F_S Lived In Old Greenwich, CT In 1984ish, When A Section Of The "Mianus River Bridge" On I 95 Collapsed. It Was Late At Night, And The Only Fatality Was A Guy Who Had Stolen A BMW And Happened To Be Escaping And Hit The Section Right As It Dropped Out. Poetic Justice!

For Several Months After That, It Was A NIGHTMARE, As All The CT Commuters To NY Had To Use The Merritt Parkway Or Route 1, Neither Of Which Was Equipped To Handle The Huge Volume Of Traffic.

A 5-Minute Trip To Downtown Greenwich Became An Hour For F_S On Some Days. The Disruption Was Complete And Awful.

Good Luck Minneapolis! It's Going To Be A Bumpy Ride!

The Google Earth images show what looks to be a trainyard of sorts under the bridge. Althouh the satellite images are usually about three years old or more, the landscape coupled with the 2D image makes it look like it has already collapsed if you change the angles on your screen.

It is scary because you just expect bridges to be safe. Maybe Fez in't that crazy.

These pricks on both sides are already trying to politicize this. Some on the right say that roads should be turned over to private enterprise, meanwhile some on the left are saying that money for fighting the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan could have went into infrastructure. These pundits on both sides will stop at nothing to get their talking points across. Its only been a couple of days since this tragedy, there will be time down the road to make points about this, the least they can do is let the victims families mourn before making some political grandstand.
