I went into a deli one time and ordered a pastrami samwich and they said what kind of bread. I said rye... no wait, banana. You got banana bread back there? What type of cheese? Cottage! Fuck you, I will not make you a pastrami and cottage cheese samwich on banana bread. That will severely ruin my reputation.

Oh wait, that wasn't me, that was Mitch Hedberg...

Hey wait - what about open faced sandwiches? That's not meat/etc inbetween two slices of bread but it's still considered a sandwich right?

Good point. I would contest that it is not a sandwich. But it's being classified as an open-faced sandwich. It's like a modification of the sandwich.
