I had to report a coworker a couple of weeks ago for abusing a consumer. She ended up getting fired because of it yesterday. On her way out she called me a 'fuckin cracka.' She obviously knew it was me that reported her, because i was the other staff present when it happened (she hit a consumer with her purse).

The thing is, I wasn't offended by the word cracka. Is this the equivalent of nigger? Should I be offended?

consumer. I work with developmentally disabled adults. Mostly mentally retardation, but also cerebal palsy, traumatic brain injuries, and autistism.

I make fun of them here alot (too much), but its really just to vent from a stressful job. I have nothing but love for them.

That reminds me of when this (white) girl at an old job of mine came up to me and made a joke about this other black woman who worked with us. it was something like "Congo, needs to find her way back to the jungle." well when she said it to me at first I didn't say anything cause I was honestly stunned she would be stupid enough to say that to another black person. so I sat in my office an stewed for about 5-10 minutes. Then I go to this white chick's office and pretty much told her if she ever said anything like that to me again I was gonna punch her in the face. She got really upset and started crying hysterically and apologizing profusely. I accepted her apology and neither of us mentioned it to the boss.
