Now we regulate reincarnation, you evil fucks? Lead paint in kid's toys?
Is there anything you won't do? Is it not obvious that the current Chinese government is a world evil that needs to be routed out, like the facists of the 40's?

Jeff, first off you're right. They have an awful system over there thats in the midst of a lot of changes. You have poor oversight/regulations by the central government. The local political leaders are corrupt and shake down the businesses to allow them to operate. Workers have little protection or avenues for redress. There's no real legal system that anyone in the west would recognize. Per capita income is at 3rd world levels for most of the populace. They are taking baby steps down what will hopefully be a long road to better human rights and standard of living. Look at where we were 100 years ago, or where Britain was 150 years ago and you'll see a lot of similarities.

So you're looking at religious persecution as a positive step toward a greater good? Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't our country founded on the extreme oppposite of that principle?

You nailed it!
Also, look at the rights of women and African Americans in this country - women have only been able to vote for ~85 years and the fight for civil rights was init's heyday only about 40 years ago.
It takes a lot of trial and error to get thigs right, and it seems that China is moving in the right direction. However, it is obvious they still have a long way to go (as does the USA to be fair).

Dred Scott, Plessy vs Ferguson. If you want to talk about environmental regulations, look at England in the 1800's or the US around the turn of the century. London was covered in smoke on a daily basis from coal fired industry and wood burning stoves in people's homes. The Triangle Shirtwaist factory fire, Thalidomide babies, on and on and on.
China's just getting started.

That's a pretty weak arguement.
The Salem Witch Trials occured before the formation of this countryas the United States.
The Salem Witch Trials occured in Salem, Massachusetts and was not systemic, as is the Chinese persecution of Buddhist culture.
The Salem Witch Trials were the result of a genuine fear of the mystical, in this case, a witch. In China, the persecution is the result of fear of a power vaccuum ccreated by a named llama, who inevitably becomes a local leader. Because he is not appointed by the Chinese government, they cannot control him.

I think the Dali Lama would say something like "China is only embracing its own illusion that the material world can control the spiritual. You can not regulate the Buddha because the buddha exists inside all of us."

No, and you're little snide comment here is completely retarded. Just because I hate religion doesn't mean I support legal action regulating it.
You can disagree with a thing but still recognize its benefit for other people. It's just not for me, and I'm happy to say why.

A giant rat with one-inch-long teeth has been caught in the southern Chinese province of Fujian.

I've seen bigger in DC. They didn't call them "city kittys" without good reason.

The first time I saw a NYC rat I screamed and ran away. It was horrifying. I really thought it was a cat at first.

Now they have killer chairs!!!!
http://www.anorak.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/anal-chair-death.jpg
Boy Killed By Anal Penetrating Chair
IN China, a fourteen-year-old boy was killed when chair he was sitting on exploded.
Parts of the chair entered the boy’s rectum. The result was extensive bleeding. And it killed him.
The killer chair is a gas cylinder type, of the type seen at computer work stations. In blue.
The height is altered by an adjustable cylinder containing highly pressurised gas. It is this that exploded.
In 2007 another chair exploded, propelling a 20cm part into the backside of a 68-year-old man. He lived.
Made in China. Buyer beware…

Thats bullshit, china has been around as a culture a lot longer than we have and we had a very short learning curve once the industrial age hit, the only thing that will change china is a nuke or a workers revolt. They have to burn that bitch down from the inside.

China’s central bank on Monday proposed replacing the US dollar as the international reserve currency with a new global system controlled by the International Monetary Fund.
In an essay posted on the People’s Bank of China’s website, Zhou Xiaochuan, the central bank’s governor, said the goal would be to create a reserve currency “that is disconnected from individual nations and is able to remain stable in the long run, thus removing the inherent deficiencies caused by using credit-based national currencies”.l (http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/7851925a-17a2-11de-8c9d-0000779fd2ac.html)
