The New Republic-a progressive magazine has gotten into a war of words with The Weekly Standard, a conservative rival.
At stake is the stories submitted to The New Republic by a soldier serving in Iraq by the name of Private Beauchamp. Apparently, it has been discovered that some of his "diaries" are factually inaccurate, and The Weekly Standard is reporting he is recanting his stories. The New Republic is saying that they haven't heard officially from the U.S. military people investigating this situation therefore they have not printed a retraction.
The Weekly Standard side can be read here (http://www.weeklystandard.com/weblogs/TWSFP/2007/08/beauchamp_recants.asp).
The New Republic's response is here (http://www.tnr.com/blog/the_plank?pid=132739).
I'm sure this is a developing story, I wanted you guys who hit the blogs harder then I do to see if there is anything else we should know or if anyone else has any updates.
