I don't know if this counts, but "Don't Fear the Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult used at the beginning of "The Stand" - I know if it counts because it was a TV movie/miniseries, but it was used incredibly well

Oh Yoko-Rushmore

Most memorable song to me in that movie is "A Quick One While He's Away" by The Who during the revenge scene.

My vote goes to "The End" by The Doors in Apocalypse Now.

"Singing in the Rain" - guess which movie!

Other good ones are: "White Rabbit" Jefferson Airplane in Fear and Loathing.

I really like Ridley Scott's use of Stevie Ray Vaughan's cover of "Voodoo Chile" as the choppers leave the base in Black Hawk Down.

The beginning of Sexy Beast is the most memorable part of a great movie even though it has little to do with the plot except setting a nice tone to be disrupted. "Peaches" by The Stranglers is a big reason it's so memorable. (That, and the title shot being a closeup on Ray Winstone's banana-hammock.

When Jack Black belts out a mean Marvin Gaye "Let's Get It On" in High Fidelity I still get chills.

I love the Sister Christian/Jessie's Girl/99 Luftballoons montage in Boogie Nights. That whole scene is just so crazy and so out of control (it's as close to being coked out of my mind and paranoid as I ever want to be), and the way that "Sister Christian" drops off and "Jessie Girl" cuts in even as that crazy-ass dude in his underwear rambles in a coke rush about how great making mix tapes is just perfect.

But that movie makes all kinds of good musical choices. Eddie/Dirk showing up at the party to "Mama Told Me Not to Come" after that violent confrontation with his mother. Scotty appearing to the tune of "You Sexy Thing." Even the valedictory use of "God Only Knows" at the very end. It's just a brilliant movie.

My fave: The Blues Brothers when they're in the elevator at the Cook County building...The muzac version of "the girl from Ipanema"

I hate: Eventhough I'm a Reno 911! fan, a remake of the Clash's "Police and Thieves" had no place in that movie. (not even a bad remake).

Love,

As a recovering goth I am required by law to first say Bela Lugosi's Dead by Bauhaus from the opening scene in The Hunger.

But since that's really only a "classic" for the children of the night, I'm going to say Iron Butterfly's In-a-gadda-da-vida at the end of Manhunter.
