no word yet on who will play but none of the ones they suggested in the article jumpa at me as good choices
being a wrestling fan i'd say brock lesnar looks the part but he'd suck when it came to dialogue
maybe triple h ???

I second that all their choices are horrible. I heard that guy from Lost was looked after to play Gambit.
I am going to say no wrestlers, the dialogue won't sound right. But I got nothing.
I've heard the same problem with leads on the Captain America film.

i never read a thor comic cuz i thought he was really gay. but no one was more gay then Sub-Mariner. Sub-Mariner was the worst superhero ever, with his little wings on his ankles and his green speedos. if they ever made a Sub-Mariner movie u know they hit the bottom of the barrel.

Kevin McKidd is only rumored to be cast as Thor, nothing is confirmed. We don't know if this is going to be 2 actors (one as Donald Blake and one as Thor) or one (just Thor).
I can't think of an actor that would properly fill the shoes of the Thunder God. Maybe they'll cast some relative unknown in the role.
As for the Captain America movie, rumors I've heard are that Josh Duhamel may be up for the role of Cap.

The difference between Aquaman and Namor is that Namor was created before Aquaman, has always been an anti-hero (back in the '40's -- real '40's now, just not the Marvel timeline) he was either fighting all surface dwellers or when he was feeling nicer, just the Nazis and Japanese), and he can fly.

They don't have to be ultra-muscular, but they need to be at least similar to their characters. If they choose an actor, put them on a strict workout regimen.
As examples, Brad Pitt, Christian Bale, and Tobey Maguire all bulked up for roles that required it.
What I am saying is: I want the actors to at least look close to the characters in terms of build. Rubber muscle suits just don't cut it, especially for somebody that is supposed to be the peak of human perfection like Captain America is.

How about Ralf Moeller as Thor? I have seen him do some good work - Gladiator comes to mind in particular.
Especially if there is a split lead for Donald Blake and Thor, you can get a more "popular" actor for Blake and get someone like Moeller that is a good actor and has substantial size (plus he has a good accent).

And we've seen beanpoles like Jake Gyllenhall and Ed Norton get huge when needed.
That said, we reeeeeeeally shouldn't be basing our idea of strength and "perfection" on nerdily drawn comic books. Guys who are incredibly strong and can fight are going to look more like Bruce Lee, not Triple H.

I agree to an extent. We don't need someone the size of Triple H for all of these roles, but the actors at least need to be muscular.
There is no way to match what can be drawn in comic books, but for the movies they need to fall somewhere in between reality and idealized fiction.
An example of what NOT to do: Batman. Although Michael Keaton was a good actor and did pretty well playing the part, he didn't have the size or build that Batman would have. Not even for a "real life" batman. Kilmer and Clooney weren't much better physically.
In the newest Batman flick Christian Bale was much closer to what you would expect. Tall, muscular, and athletic. In other words, more believable and a mix of real life and fan-boy expectations.

But he still looks nothing like the comic, and that's a good thing. Batman is, 90% of the time, drawn like a wrestler.

That's true. I don't know how they could possibly get someone that matches the sheer size or proportion of the comic characters.
Actually, I could see someone like Matt Damon playing Cap. He can muscle-up pretty well and looks like Steve Rogers IMO. He might be a little old at this point, but maybe not.

I don't think it's really a problem for them to make him look a little taller than he is. The LotR movies were filled with actors playing parts they were either too tall or too short to play and the filming techniques "fixed" everything.

Matt Damon is listed as 5'10" on IMDB, so it wouldn't be too tough to "fake" 6' or more. Between lifts or platforms and "special/staging effects" they could easily add a couple inches of screen height to Damon.

It is indeed. Another arthouse director, and I think it is an excellent choice in the vain of Downey Jr. as Tony Stark. This gets me real excited. Watch Hamlet, and the artistry he puts into environments and costumes is just fantastic. Should be great for really showing Asgard, Bifrost, and Nefflheim. Throw in a little doom of the ragnarok also.
Wonder who the villian would be. I want Loki, maybe introduce him and make him the trickster/man behind the curtain.

Now knowing much about the comic book I think Skarsgard is a great choice for Thor. I never realized how big he was in Generation Kill because I guess a lot of the guys were big & athletic. It wasn't until I saw him next to a couple of the other stars in TrueBlood & realized he towered over them. Plus I like the guy as an actor, so I might watch this movie just to see how he pulls it off, whereas I would otherwise have zero reason to watch a Thor movie.

I listened to an interview with Dolph Lundgren somewhat recently. He was a guest on The Adam Carolla Show last year.
I (along with Adam and the gang) were shocked and amazed at how smart, eloquent, educated, and well spoken Dolph was. He his highly educated and not at all the robotic, cold, aloof guy he portrayed in the Rocky movie. He also seemed pretty well adjusted. Like... he kinda doesn't care that people think that he's a robot. He knows he's intelligent... and that's enough for him.

It was good but it sure as shit wasn't on the same level as Blade, or even The Dark Knight.
It was rather light. Maybe even, dare I say it, a bit like the first Fantastic Four movie. A bit made-for-tv, ya know.
I really enjoyed any and all scenes that took place in Asgard though. A lot of effort went into creating an environment that would be interesting and otherworldly. There was some good depth there.

Taking my youngest son on Monday. It will be my first 3D movie, and my first time going to Alamo Drafthouse.
Not a bad movie at all. And the Alamo experience was cool, too. The 3D version was only $10. When you look forward, the only thing you see over the "table" is the screen. The only other people in the theater you can see are the ones in your row. The food ordering is all done with pencil and paper, so there is no talking. They are actually very insistant about the no talking and no cell phones, and that made the whole thing the best movie going experience I've had in many, many, many years.

Sounds like we need one of these in Jersey. By the way, I liked the movie.

Saw it.
There was some good depth there.
all the trailers I saw made it look very "made for TV"

I'm way behind on listening to the R&F show, so I just listened to the April 26th show today. Apparently, Ron went to a screening of Thor. He was talking about a screening of a movie where they used magnetic locks on the doors so no one could get out until the credits were over. It must have been Thor. He said they played a loud Foo Fighters song during the credits, and it was a 3D movie. Can't be too many movies out that meet both those criteria right now.
This means nothing. I just wanted to share. I'm bored.

I'm about 20 minutes into this shitpile. I don't know how much more I can take. It is spectacular how terrible this allegedly good movie is. English accents, the cheesy symphonic score, awful cgi, ethnically diverse norsemen. Fuck this country's entertainment complex.

ethnically diverse norsemen.
Funny, the evil government guys are all white. They must have mixed up a few pages of the script.

I've become so numb to Hollywood using British accents for anything that's not modern day America that I don't even notice it anymore.
