I live in Florida, funeral is in Connecticut, and I can't make it. He was only 30 years old, and the death was unexpected. I wanted to send a card, and I know the family wasn't that well off. I was wondering if it was customary to send a check with the card to help with funeral expenses, or would that seem strange?
If you can, check the obituary to see where they might want donations to go (memorial fund, charity, etc.) If there's no such thing, I don't think it would be bad to offer a small financial gift to the family.
Sorry for your loss.

I know that sometimes people do give money in a mass card. My dad past away this Feb & we got quite a few cards with money in it. It was unexpected but appreciated.

Was a great guy, died of an asthma complication in his sleep. He had a son, and from what I read from the obituary, donations are being taken for his education. I guess I'll take that route, thanks.

Sorry for your loss. It sucks for someone to pass at such a young age, the son must really be taking it hard.
