Remember when "alternative" music was called college rock and you actually had to seek it out instead of every radio station in the country playing it? Then they put it on top 40 and called it alternative. What was it an alternative to if it was the mainstream?

The name didnt just change, the music that was given the label (which was coopted by the music industry during the grunge heyday) became painless, uninventive shit. Real college rock left the airwaves.
