My Jones Beach Story

A few years back I was attending a Jimmy Buffett Show at Jones Beach and we were partying in the parking lot when the park police came cruising by. Litterally everyone in the lot was drinking beer as were we. The cop stops and calls my buddy and me over to the car and asks to see our ID. I figure he wanted to confirm our ages so I put my beer on top of the car and give him my license. So he starts writing us up for a ticket for open container. My buddy and I were the only ones it seems in the entire lot not drinking out of a plastic cup but straight from a can.
We ended up with a $50 ticket that I never paid.
Wastin away again in Margaritaville

Yup. First time I went to a concert at Jones Beach a cop came over and told us to put the beer into cups so that we wouldn't get a ticket. I've brought cups to every concert since.

I'm all for boozing, but I took my girlfriend to a concert at PNC a couple years ago. It was a gift for her- Sting - so yeah, I was expecting a fairly tame, overweight, mumu-sporting audience consisting of 97% females.

First off, the plastic bottles containing the booze they have at PNC are disgusting shit...and don't taste good... or maintain any semblance of coldness beyond 2 minutes. Second, as I was heading to the pisser, some guy leaps up screaming at me. I evidently stepped on the corner edge of his blanket. Apologized, kept on my way. Come back and I see my chair is smashed- then he comes up and tells me he's gonna break my neck. Evidently had been threatening my girlfriend too- obviously a drunk, told him to go fuck himself. Pretty soon security got involved.

So yeah, I can see the benefits of banning booze at a concert. Prob is, people will just resort to pit-stop boozing, and drinking+driving= worse than some inept drunkard trying to start shit.

as long as you have it in a plastic cup and dont act like an asshole, i dont think they are going to say anything to you.

If you drink discreetly and don't bother other people, the police will leave you alone. If you're going to act like an asshole, you're asking for trouble.

that sucks. i am thinking about the garden state arts center circa 1989 when beer balls were really big in nj. they would be flying everywhere around the parking lot - too funny.

You people missed the most disturbing part of that article:

" Some of the arrests Thursday also involved unruly behavior in the mosh pit. Concertgoers were charged with assault if they were flailing arms or legs in a way that would hurt others."

What is the world coming to when you have to behave in an orderly fashion in a mosh pit?

Keep THE MAN out of our mosh pit!

Two weeks ago I went there for Marilyn Manson and Slayer. We started drinking in the parking lot at 1 for an 8 o'clock show. It was great fun. I love PNC for the tailgating aspect. I live 20 minutes from Jones Beach but never see shows there cause of there no alcohol policy.

Don't worry fans I'm still lurking.
