...it throws you a curve ball
So this doesn't mean anything for me right now. Well it could not. But it may. I am not sure yet. No one is sure so I shouldn't freak out but I can't help but want to break down and cry.
I just got a notice in my mailbox about Layoffs in operations...that's right, the dreaded L word. It could not be coming at a more not good time for me. I may be safe...MAY. I have 3 years experience in the company but I just have this fear that it won't be enough.
I am not going to freak out until I know more. I can't. I'm just going to go crazy.
The union is going to try and fight for us....let's see if these union dues I pay every week are actually good for something.

What kind of horrible company notifies employees about that kind of stuff via email?

I dont think we got an e-mail about it. This is actually a fax we all got from our union.

Oh, ok. I thought you said you got it in the mail, so I figured either email or regular mail. But at least its from the union. It would be messed up if you got such impersonal notice form management.

Basically. My father was with a company for 18 years and they shit canned him. A teacher my mother worked with was teaching kindergarten for 6 years and they shit canned her this year. And she taught at a Christian school. Those faggots are the least Christian people I know. Choke on your saviour.
There is ZERO fucking loyalty with all these cocksuckers.
These people are fucking scum and will hire and fire whoever they want in order to make themselves an extra .2% profit at the end of the year.
Hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

That's horrible, man. It's pretty damn sad how little of a say in things we the workers have. All it takes is a swipe of a pen or the tapping of a few keystrokes to wipe out thousands or even one job and the repercussions are horrifying. The only loyalty that these pricks in management have is to their shareholders. Everything is about the bottom line and humanity does not fit in with that agenda.
I hope everything has turned out all right with your family.

time to start shopping your resume! even if it does not happen, better of being proactive about it and getting your resume out there. maybe you find something better anyway!

yeah, best to start sharpening that resume. even if you don't get laid off, stability won't follow for a while.

a union can pretty much just ensure you get whatever severance benefits you are owed and have the company abide by the 'seniority policy' if they have one. they are powerless against downsizing and outsourcing.
little story: my grandfather who was a union leader at Colgate for 35 years met with Jimmy Hoffa on several occassions for various things even though Colgate had it's own Colgate Employee's Union. When the Procter & Gamble plant in Staten Island was looking to bring the Teamsters in Jimmy went to speak to the workers and my grandfather sat in. My grandfather told me he respected what Jimmy was telling the workers with regard to being unable to stop downsizing and layoffs but that they could ensure the company abided by the negotiated benefits that coincided with being let go
Best Of Luck Amy, hope things work out for the best for you...

that may be the most truthful thing I've read lately.
Like moe said...hope for the best and prepare for the worst. It might not be a bad idea to dust off the resume and send out a few feelers just in case.
Keep us updated, hope it all works out.

there are certain stations that have positions open....i have 14 people before me and not that many operations stations open so more than likely i will have to work in customer service in paramus.....if an operations position is left i will take it but i doubt there will be.
stugots, i wont have to wear the jumpsuit anymore but i will wear it just for you. the station that reef works in has positions available but at this time i am going to stay in new jersey if i can. (i will leave a key under the door mat)
nick, the bid isnt out yet so i dont know what options I have until the other 14 people before me choose first....i will keep everyone updated...i really am going to miss my good friends i have where i work now.
oh and in customer service, there is no way i will be able to be on the internet during work so i will be in hell but at least i wont have to deal with lifting heavy shipments anymore.

i think they do make a ittle more than we do but that means i would have to get my CDL and there would be potential for me to get sent out on the road in one of those vans or bread trucks and there is no way in hell i am going to be able to do that

I just got a call...I had a choice between Operations in South Hackensack, Operations in Newark, or Customer Service in Paramus so I chose South Hackensack. It's probably going to be an hour ride for me but at least I won't get murdered.

right at this moment the union is meeting with my company about layoffs once more. this is the real kind of layoffs this time....not the fake kind where nobody gets fired and people just get moved around. they're really going to do it this time.
i probably wont be losing my job but i may get moved around once more.
i'm actually pretty calm about the whole thing because at this point i dont care. im tired of caring what happens to me in the sense that by this time next year i will be living in long island with reef and working somewhere new so i just need to get to that point.
the thing that pisses me off is i was going to make a move on an apartment
i saw a studio apartment in the price range i am looking for closer to where i work because the 45-50 minute drive and the 42 mile drive is just not working out for me.....but i cant go for this apartment......i dont want to be stuck in a lease only to be working somewhere different and then the move away from my family and friends will be pointless. (yes i realize its not that far but 50 minutes away is a lot different than 5 minutes away)
as some of you have said yes maybe i should get a new job........right now i just need to stay where i am comfortable........i just need it. it's shitty and i dont deserve it but its just what i need right now because i know what i am doing.

So it looks like first theyre offering customer service positions to anybody who wants them then I guess after that they'll do whatever moving of people that they have to do. Two people at my station MAY go to customer service so that MIGHT mean I will get to stay here but we will see. I am not freaking out or really bothering to care at this point. Whatever happens happens and I will just have to deal with it when it comes. The fax from the union says the company wants all changes implimented by Oct 15 but the union has extended that date to the 22nd so by the end of the month I will know if I am staying here or going to have to work in Paramus in customer service....either way it's a bitch of a ride so whatever.
