Death Wish.....
two totally different new films tread the same ground.....
The Brave One with Jodie Foster
Death Sentence with Kevin Bacon
..........so the question is....is it okay for the victims or survivors of violent crime to take revenge..........

Is this any different then the plot of Batman? I don't know why people have been making this statement when there are soooo many movies with the same story line.

I immediately thought of my favorites from the good people at Troma.
Toxic Avenger and Surf Nazis Must Die.

as my life is today? no, but if my life was a movie (GEE GEE GEE) I could see me snapping and wanting revenge.

There is something kinda of romantic about vigilante justice. The idea of one man (or woman) taking justice into their own hands to avenge a past wrong is something that appeals to a lot of people.
I know I've thought about it if something bad were to happen to my family.

Honestly, there are always revenge flicks. It just depends on how they do it. Seeing the poster of Death Sentence kinda reminds me of the video game Max Panye.
But, I remember on April 16th 2004, when two revenge movies came out at the same time. Kill Bill Vol. 2 and Punisher. One's comic book adaptation and one's a homage to classic revenge flicks with a hint of spaghetti western and dash of samurai.
I've seen nothing beyond the trailer for The Brave One... but the preview itself reminded me of Bernhard Goetz's story.

Jodie Foster does look a little like Bernhard Goetz

I have a vision of a radically different legal systems than the one we have now....
if you have been proven to be a violent repeat offender who hurts or kills innocnet victims ....
you will be stripped of your rights and locked down untill your dying day.....
the justice system we have today is too impotent...and that's why we have revenge fantasies where Jodie Foster hunts and kills on the streets...
Batman in his core is a violent vigelante as well......
if you are the survivor of a violent cirme or were close to someone who was.....
how can you bare to sit and watch the pathetic nature of the criminal justice system?

I agree with you about the repeat offenders. The problem is that no one wants higher taxes to pay for the prison space needed to lock these scumbags up. Its just a revolving door right now.
I'm going to check out both of these movies btw. I love revenge flicks.

and my plan for violent career criminals doesn't have to be expensive....it just might get us a bad reputation in the world community.......
I would just throw them all down into a giant pit manned with sharpshooters.....
We throw food down there and shoot anyone who tries to kill anyone.....
inexpensive and effective....
it may be brutal but society will be better for it.....
