Richard Jewell, once suspected of setting off a deadly bomb during the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, has died, his attorney has told CNN.

i always felt bad for this guy. he was basically convicted by the public, and then by the time they cleared him, no one cared. I am sure 75% of the people out there still think he is the one who did it

Honestly though, I had no idea who he was until you clarified. I think most people have forgotten about that bombing.

I didn't forget. Jewell got hammered for that, and if I'm not mistaken it turned out to be a crazed right wing anti abortion guy who did it, and hid out in the piney woods for about 5 years before they caught him.

Eric Rudolph, right?

(Was that in the article? I didn't click the link)

Exactly. This poor bastard was s@#$ all over by the government, the press, public opinion, etc. all for doing his job well! He was paying attention, found a bomb, saved some lives, then is treated like the biggest villain since Tim McVeigh. All of the "evidence" was circumstantial.

The worst part is that nobody ever made it right. He was crucified by the press but then the apology was blown off. Even when the government formally apologized, it barely made a ripple in the press.

Sorry buddy - I hope you get a better deal in the next life than you got in this one.

Didn't he get a multi-million dollar settlement from the news networks after what happened, and he finally got a gig as a cop down the road?

Wasn't the term "person of interest" created as a result of the fiasco surrounding this guy?

no, that term came about when a bunch of hot, horny house wives were looking for guys with big cocks and I topped the list.

If this had happened after 9/11 he'd would have thrown in some secret CIA prison camp somewhere never to be seen again.

WOW... he was only 44!

That means he was around 34 when it happened. I figured he was 44 back then.

I read an article that the mayor of Atlanta did give him a certificate of heroism a year ago at the 10 year anniversay.

You took that line down the street, around the traffic circle twice and parallel parked it.
