I thought I'd share with the board the great news my wife and I got 5 weeks ago: she's pregnant with our second child!

Both of us are ecstatic, although she's going through some of the worst nausea and other pregnancy related sicknesses ever. Right now, she's 9 weeks along, and the little one is due April 3rd. Right now, I'm a very happy guy.

Oh yeah. If it's a boy, his room going to get some of my statues, maybe Superman, Captain America or Spider-man. Also, his name is going to be Ben or Logan, which both are comic book character names as well as my grandfather's name (Ben) or, for my wife, the name of Rory's boyfriend on Gilmore Girls (Logan).

We don't have any girls's names yet, but I've started looking at the Marvel and DC Encyclopedias for names. So far, we like Courtney (Stargirl).

Those are cool names. My cousin is named Reed, and ironically enough, his wife looks a LOT like Sue Storm (comic book version, not Jessica Alba)

Liz has agreed that the nursery I'm designing will have murals of three things kids like:

Wall 1: Current (old) Yankee Stadium, with monument park

Wall 2: Indiana Jones swinging on a vine

Wall 3: Dinosaurs (but fun, Cartoony ones... not scary Jurassic park ones)

Man, there's a lot of names out there for girls that are cool in the Marvel Universe.

Yes. Although I have considered Kara as well since it's Supergirl's name. My first daughter was named Maggie, and while I know of one comic book character with that name, it was a name my wife liked.

Who are you to judge what people want to do about their future? I understand that you don't want to have kids, but this is the second time you've made a comment about me looking forward to the future.

The "now" becomes the future, and if you don't plan now, the future can be messy.

My daughter Moira Grace(Irish Spelling and pronounced Maura) would have been Michael James.

I don't understand how it was different. We did have our boys names planned prior to the conception of second child.

Regardless, I still had the name "Ben" picked out before my first child was conceived. But having done that, I wasn't doing it to check something off an imaginary checklist nor was I failing to enjoy "life in the now." I enjoyed my life at that time, but still thought of what I would name my son if and when he came around.

Like I said, you can do both.

And this goes back to your comment in my house thread when you said "Enjoy being Newlyweds". The thing is, we've been together for almost five years now. The reason why we got married is because we could afford to have the party we wanted it was kind of symbolic that both Liz and I have grown up.

I'm not sure how long you've been with Regina, but understand that having kids is something Liz and I talked about for a long time even before we got married, in fact on of the reasons I love Liz so much is because of how well she gets along with kids, something I sometimes have a hard time with. If Liz didn't want to have kids, we probably wouldn't have stayed together very long.

It's not a checklist. We're not pushing to have kids. The only thing we're pushing for is to have a house, because that unlocks a lot of other things we want to do. Kids is one of them. It's not like we're saying MUST HAVE HOUSE MUST HAVE KIDS MUST HAVE THIS MUST HAVE THAT. We just want a house.

We've been together for five years, we've lived in the same place for two, going on three years, and we want a house. When we have a house, then we'll have kids. That's the way it goes.

And I apologize for turning this thread about me. Mikey, I'd appreciate it if you or one of the other mods split this into a thread called "Baby Names" or "Life's Checklist" or something.

Hey, did you know I worked for Craig Carton?

I can't say one way or another whether most people don't act that way. I do know that I've talked to others who were doing as sort of a dreaming about the future type of thing. And yes, sometimes people are too much about the future and not the now, but then again, there's people who go to the other extreme, and only live in the now, with no thought of the future. You need a happy mix.

And you didn't make a a mistake. I said that we had "Ben" and "Logan" picked out while my wife was pregnant with the first. But I didn't admit that I wanted Ben even before she was pregnant until my second post.

I respect your ongoing mantra of "Living in the Now", however I don't believe it really applies to this thread. There is nothing wrong with playing around with baby names and I don't believe it takes away ones ability to 'Live in the Now', not in the least. I think it's a cute bonding experience for couples as well as a practical way of getting to know your partner.

It also prevents couples from giving their child a name they will later regret. Personally, I don't want to be the new mother whom the nurses are hounding to give them a name to write on the baby's nametag, and I wind up blurting out a name like "Frito" because I happened to be eating a bag of Fritos at the time.

Freitag and Eli both make very valid points. Life is not all or nothing, there is so much grey and sometimes if you fail to plan important events in your life you wind up spending the remainder of your life fixing the problems that arise from ill-planning. I realize planning does not guarantee anything in life but that doesn't mean we shouldn't try.. having goals is not imaginary.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I remeber both times my wife told me we were going to have a baby. The first time she showed up at my office with a present. When I opened it up, it was a photograph of the pregnency test. She just sat there with a smile on her face while I took a couple of seconds to figure it out.

The second time, I came home from work and she had my two year old daughter run up to me and say "Daddy! Look at my shirt!!". It said "I'm the big sister".

There is NOTHING better in the universe.

Enjoy.

It's weird. Everything I've been seeing lately really makes me want to be a dad.

Today I was at a park and a mom and her two kids were looking in the water at fish and she was explaining it to them.

At work, a guy was carrying his little girl on his shoulders and bent his knees and she started cracking up so he kept doing it.

Just got back from my wife's ultrasound. She's 19 weeks along, and the baby's doing great. It's going to be a girl, which will make it our second. I have to admit, I'm a little disappointed, because I wanted to have a boy. I'm glad we found out now, because I would have hated myself to be disappointed when the baby's born. I would have felt like an asshole.

Anyway, the names we have for girls are Sydney (taken from the show Alias), Courtney (taken from DC Comics Stargirl), Kaylee (from Firefly), and the frontrunner is Riley. I leave it for people to guess where I got it from.

Seriously though, I wasn't bothered myself about not having any boys, but I know many who have been. From my experience, the feeling is only temporary and it goes away quickly. It won't even be a thought in your head when you see your beautiful new daughter for the first time.

I leave it for people to guess where I got it from.

congrats Eli!

Both of us are ecstatic, although she's going through some of the worst nausea and other pregnancy related sicknesses ever. Right now, she's 9 weeks along, and the little one is due April 3rd. Right now, I'm a very happy guy.

Do yourself a favor. Before deciding on a name say this sentence aloud:

"Gentlemen, now making her way to the center stage, please put your hands together for _____________." If that sentence works, quickly reconsider.

I really didn't want to start a new thread, but I'm very happy and proud to announce that one of my best friends, JD, gave birth to a baby boy yesterday, Alexander Walter. Mom, Dad, and Baby are good, and they should be home by the end of the weekend. It's also kind of weird for me because it's my first close friend to have a kid, so I'm thinking. I dunno. Just thinking.

My wife went in to the doctor on Thursday as we near the final weeks (she's 37 weeks along). We found out the baby's in a breach position still, and likely won't move on her own.

The doctor recommends doing an external manipulation, and if that doesn't work, we're doing a C section. We're going in on Wednesday for the manipulation, and there's a chance we would have to have the C section on Wednesday. If the manipulation doesn't work, the C section will be the following Wednesday.

Has any of the moms on this board done the manipulation before? The doctors I've spoken to (including my brother) sayss it can be painful.

That's part of the reason I threw this out to the RF.net moms.

My wife thinks it is, because she doesn't want to do a C section. Recovery time period on a c section is much longer than for regular delivery and she's going to be limited in certain activities (such as picking up our 2 year old).

The pain of this is supposed to be less painful than labor, but I'm still troubled.

One of the worse things for me to have heard in my life is my wife going through labor pains, and not be able to do anything about it.

I had a c section and I have no idea what any female is talking about. I don't remember being told I wasn't allowed to do anything except lifting. Once the drugs wore off though I didn't think I was going to walk again. But honestly, I never had any intentions of having a natural birth.

I DO remember having sex 4 days after having my daughter because it was the night I got out of the hospital and I had gone 7 mths without because he was in Iraq.

Wow, you are a trooper! My wife listened to the doctors and didn't let anything touch her privates for a good six weeks. The worse part was with the first child she was late and the doctor suggested sex in order to induce labor. So we were going at it like newlyweds! Then it all stopped for six weeks.

I had a c-section with my son. a bit painful, but the epideral and pain killers were so nice. nice i have some scar tissue in that area, i've already decided on a c-section for the 2nd kid (a girl). i'll have it sometime the 1st week of may.

So we're doing the c-section. It looks like we're scheduled for April 1st, but on a waiting list for March 28th and 31st.

Congrats Eli, and all the best for the upcoming procedure. I'm sure all three of you will come through with flying colors. You will be in our thoughts.

This could be the only good thing to come out of April 1st.

My wife's doctor has decided we need to have the c section tonight. My wife's fluid levels are really low right now.

Right now, it's not an emergency. She just wants to get it done, since we've been checking fluid level since last Wednesday.

I forgot to mention something before, that's kind of incredible.

On the day Riley was born (about 6 hours earlier), my brother's wife also gave birth to a baby girl.

So my daughter has the exact same birthdate as her cousin.
