How do you get a knot out of your back?

I awoke this morning with the worst knot in my back in the world, and have tried every sort of stretching exercise in the world and nothing is working. I attempted to go running but the damn kink is just too much and interferes with my running. It is on my right side shoulder blade area. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

usually you just have to wait it out

try getting a massage, that usually helps, and then putting some icy hot or something on it while you sleep.

keep stretching, but when you stretch make sure stretch you do not bob up and down. you want to start the stretch, when it gets tight, hold it for 10 seconds, and then slowly come back to normal position.

The same thing happened to me last week, under my left shoulder blade, and it went up into my lower neck. Made it hard to drive and check my left blind spot.

I used the Ben Gay pads they've started selling. There is one size that fits the neck shoulder, and it worked pretty well.

i lifted a heavy tv a few timesthe other day and spent an hour or so brushing and vacuuming the pool and when i went home i had what seemed to be a major knot in my lower back. which is very rare for me to have any backpain

i have this support stretchy belt i wore that night, not much help. after a decent night's sleep it was as if i never had the backpain

Try borrowing EffMeBoobs' pillows (http://www.ronfez.net/forums/showthread.php?t=63069). They may not get the knot out of your back but they're sure to get the snot out of your front.

Well in an update, I used the heating pad intermittently throughout the knot and pretty much loosened it up. I was in pain all day at work till I got home and used the heat pad. I feel pretty good now.

Jeff gets these all the time, I put my elbow on it and dig into the knot. I suck at massage, but the elbow thing usually works (you can kind of feel the knot popping around)
