If you knew you had to do something that would make someone really happy and put aside your own happiness, would you?
Its not a question of what it is. Just would you?

I probably would. Depends on how much of my own happiness I'd be putting aside though.

If That Other Person Really Loved YOU, Then They Would Not Want YOU To Put Aside Your Happiness! Love Is A Two Way Street.

Generally, yes, but the details may affect the decision.

I agree. no ones happiness is more important than your own. if it is going to make you miserable, then do not do it. if you are indifferent, then I would say do it

If its something thats going to bum me out then no, but if its something that is just going to make me "not happy" but not depressed (as in just ok with the situation or indifferent) then why the hell not.
But as said above, the details really are the drive behind this one.
I mean it might make someone happy to watch me punch myself in the nuts, but it wouldnt make me happy...it would just make me sad.

I do it all the time. It may not always be something monumental, but yeah, all the time.

It depends on the details and impact on both parties, but both partners in a healthy relationship (not even just romantic relationships, but familial relationships and friendships as well) generally make compromises and sacrifices for the sake of the other.

I would try, for someone I cared for deeply.
But, if I'd end up resenting it in the long run and the relationship suffered as a result...
perhaps the other person would be happy after all.
For example, I wouldnt change my board name just to make MikeyBoy happy.

My answer is do it - but with a caveat attached.
As others have said, relationships are about sacrifice, give and take, etc. However, there is a point at which "giving too much" can be negative.
We all sacrifice things/our own happiness to make others happy. However, if the sacrifice is so great that it "hurts" you, then it could also have the power to damage the relationship and make things worse (even if there is temporary happiness).
Unfortunately, your question is a little vague. I innately would say yes, but be careful/mindful of where the "downside" might take you (and your "other").

If the person meant a lot to me then yes, no doubt. Unless its anal.

Does this have to do with the falling down the stairs?
And depends the person. If it's someone's whose happiness means the world to you (e.g. a person you're dating, married, and in love with), then yes. If it's someone whose happiness you don't give two shits about or would prefer them not to be happy or at least not know what could make them happy (e.g. mother), then no.

Sounds like a description of marriage and parenthood. I don't want that to sound negative but everything I do in my life falls into that catergory. You do for others first and I wouldn't have it any other way:smile:

Yes, I'd do it in a minute as long as it was something that didn't go against my own morals.
But remember, if you do it, you chose to do it therefore you can't be resentful later or browbeat the person with it if you regret it.

Even though my own happiness should come first, I know I'd keep those feelings to myself and do what I can for someone else's happiness.

My daughter's happiness comes 1st. Everything else after that is up for discussion... there's always a little give & take when it comes to happiness.
