Went in for my interview today...I am now an Archives Technician at the Washington National Records Center in Suitland, Maryland, which is part of the National Archives system!!!

I pretty much have to just wait now for HR to call me to tell me when to report. I can't wait! Its been a real tough struggle for me since I graduated school back in December, but it feels like things are finally starting to work out for me

Great News

Welcome to the Working Week
Elvis Costello

Now that your picture's in the paper being rhythmically admired
and you can have anyone that you have ever desired,
all you gotta tell me now is why, why, why, why.

Welcome to the workin' week.
Oh I know it don't thrill you, I hope it don't kill you.
Welcome to the workin' week.
You gotta do it till you're through it so you better get to it.

All of your family had to kill to survive,
and they're still waitin' for their big day to arrive.
But if they knew how I felt they'd bury me alive.

Welcome to the workin' week.
Oh I know it don't thrill you, I hope it don't kill you.
Welcome to the workin' week.
You gotta do it till you're through it so you better get to it.

I hear you sayin', "Hey, the city's alright,
when you only read about it in books.
Spend all your money gettin' so convinced
that you never even bother to look.
Sometimes I wonder if we're livin' in the same land,
Why d'you wanna be my friend when I feel like a juggler
running out of hands?

Welcome to the workin' week, oh, welcome to the working week.

All different kinds. Everything from old passports to crime scene photos and tax information.

There are also scary records that are permanently kept in vaults that I can't access without someone who has clearance

See if you can find the files from my security clearance check. I've wanted to see it for a long time, but I don't want to go through the whole FOIA process.

About freakin' time you lazy....

Just kidding brother. Excellent news indeed. I'm glad you're so stoked about the new job, and knowing what a history buff you are the National Records Center must be a dream come true for you.

All the best!

Congratulations, that's great news! Like Gvac said you're well-suited to the job given your background and interests.

My condolences about the commute to Suitland however.

Are you a GS-er? If so, you'll never get fired!

I'm going to second what AJ said. Don't ever quit, ever. I have worked with a few former government workers, and they all agree quiting was one of the biggest mistakes they made. The pay isn't great, but its impossible to get fired, and you actually get a good retirement plan. But if working for the government makes you want to kill yourself, get out of there ASAP.
