Visiting Chicago in October.

I'm heading to the Notre Dame-BC game on 13 October and will be spending a couple days in Chicago prior to and after the game, just wondering if anyone could recommend cheap hotel, good bars, restaurant, etc etc....
Any help is appreciated.
