A quick question...

A college friend of mine lost his father over the weekend very suddenly. I met the father a few times, and I dated his sister for an extremely brief time, but outside of that, the family doesn't know me from Adam.

I am sending a sympathy card to his parents house, but I'm not sure how it should be addressed. Should it be addressed to just the friend, the friend "and family", or just "The Family"?

Also, how should the inside be addressed? "Friend", "To Friend and your family", etc.

Thanks.

not to make a joke, but this just stuck out at me..
you met the father, and dated the friends sister, or you met the father and dated the father's sister (your friends aunt).

regardless, hippo's nailed it.
dear (insert family name) family,....

best regards, freitag (friend of XXXX)

My friend's sister. It wasn't long, and in fact, I ended it after two dates when my friend made it known to me he was very uncomfortable with me dating his sister.

(yes, I know it was a violation of the guy rule. I didn't know she was his sister until she identified herself as such)
