MANILOW BOYCOTTS 'VIEW' OVER CONSERVATIVE CO-HOST'S 'DANGEROUS AND OFFENSIVE' VIEWS... (http://www.tmz.com/2007/09/17/barry-to-elisabeth-your-view-is-dangerous/)

In an exclusive statement to TMZ, Barry says, "I strongly disagree with her views. I think she's dangerous and offensive. I will not be on the same stage as her." Barry, taking a stand!

I know, I know. Who gives a fuck. You're right. But this is an illustration of whats wrong with so much political discourse. There's so much demonizing that goes on both to the Right and Left, and that makes having a debate or discussion where both sides can give and take impossible. And his claims of being so "offended" by her point of view is just a way of making this personal, and avoid having to articulate or defend his positions. It's a cop out, as it so often is with people who claim to be offended. It's a form of intellectual bullying and it instead of starting a conversation, it ends the chance of having one.

I suspect Barry thought he was taking a principled stand, but he ended up just making an ass of himself in my eyes. If he's so sure of his politics are correct, he should be able to debate her (she's not exactly Bill Buckley) and wipe the floor with her, right? But no, he runs away screaming names at her.

Most of these entertainers have a talent but aren't the brightest or best educated people around. They surround themselves with people who tell them how profound they are and they start to believe it.

But then again, I was never going to buy a Manilow CD anyway. Have fun looking like an idiot.

He's just ashamed that Lizzy can take him in a fight.

All he has to do is sing "Mandy" to her and butter will be dripping down her pantleg.

Or maybe they are pretty smart, but this just isn't their area of expertise.
I really wasn't looking to make this about him. I roll my eyes like everyone else when the Bill O'Rielly types start attacking Hollywood. But its just the intolerance of an opposing view, and the lack of any curiosity to understand or concede that they might have a few valid points to make that bugs me. If the person starting attacking or insulting you right off the bat, then there's obviously no point in attempting to debate them. But to not even show up is pretty weak.

Well, she was in Survivor: Outback. How knows what she had to do to get food. It could fall between the lines of sucks a cameraman's cock or fighting a kangaroo.

Barry Manilow looks A LOT like Barbara Walters nowadays. Maybe this is some kind of ruse cuz they cant be in the same place at the same time.

He looks like a Fraggle.

Bizarre criticism of him in this thread aside, I agree it's stupid of him to go out of his way to do this. It's not a political show, she's not some sort of important pundit or politician, and neither is he. If he showed up, they'd talk about his stupid music, not politics. He's acting like Bill O'Reilly called him up.

First of all, how does "The View" manage to get all this free publicity?
Second of all, who on this board watches "The View?"
Third of all, I like Barry-grew up listening to him-he was a small bit of entertainment in the nightmare now known as the 1970s.
Fourth of all, who cares about his politics? Let the man sing!

This reaks of Barry getting his name in the press and making a point that so many of his friends would agree with.

But he is right that she is offensive. From what I've seen, she argues with untruths and just isn't that bright whenever the ladies discuss something other than entertainment. And if there are women out there looking up to her, well, that's dangerous, as in being a danger to their minds, preventing them from even looking into a truth and just plain keeping them dumb.

What? No Barry Manilow? How will they get anybody to watch The View now?

He doesn't want to be on the same show as her - people asked why, and he told them. Not sure why that's such a huge, huge, huge deal, on either side. He has an opinion, and should be allowed to do or not do things in support of his career that line up with his beliefs. They have a show - they are allowed to have on whoever they want to.

Rosie had it right when she mocked up "Poor Elizabeth..." - the Conservatives love to come to defend her, even though she has her own show and kind of has proven she can handle her own.
