Senior American intelligence and defence officials believe that President George W Bush and his inner circle are taking steps to place America on the path to war with Iran, The Sunday Telegraph has learnt.

Awesome.

interesting fact:

"learnt" is indeed a word.

Although my spell check says otherwise, dictionary.com lists it as a lesser used form of the word learned.

Now you know something they wont teach ya in an Iranian school (if youre a woman , anyway).

So basically Cheney is going spin it that attacking Iran (i.e. the Revolutionary Guard targets) is part of saving American lives in Iraq. While we're doing that, we'll attack their nuke sites while to ensure they don't go nuclear.

He's a genius.

it's nu-cu-lar. and i think iran with nukes would be no threat to anyone, they'd only use them for their own defense. let's not get crazy here.

Teheran, here we come!

Sy Hersh, one of the first reporters to call bullshit on the Iraq shenanigans (correctly as it turns out) says Bush/Cheney are fixin' to "right-size" our wars in southwest Asia.

Lucky us, we get to live through the end of the American Empire.

I don't even have to read the article. I already know what's coming. I've read everything Tom Clancy ever wrote, and it seems this president is using Jack Ryan to plan his foreign policy.

Now it has emerged that Condoleezza Rice, the secretary of state, who has been pushing for a diplomatic solution, is prepared to settle her differences with Vice-President Dick Cheney and sanction military action.

I had hopes for her after the breakthrough with N. Korea. Apparently Cheney must have some Polaroids of her from when she was in college.

He probably does see himself as a Jack Ryan-type figure. I've always seen him as a amalgam of the considered judgement of Sonny and the brain power of Fredo Corleone.

If the Democrats let this go through, I really hope this is the time shit finally goes down in this country. I hope that shit goes down but my cynical realism believes that as long as a new season of Idol starts on FOX people will just shut up and accept it.

Don't worry Liddy,
I have total confidence the Dems will roll over on this while they draft a resolution to call Limbaugh a bad boy.

Hey they can't all be zingers. Just let the bomb I dropped fizzle out and die. I hit "send" and felt a tremor in the Force-as if thousands of comedians cried out at once and then were suddenly silenced.

From the NYer piece:

Many of those who support the President’s policy argue that Iran poses an imminent threat. In a recent essay in Commentary, Norman Podhoretz depicted President Ahmadinejad as a revolutionary, “like Hitler . . . whose objective is to overturn the going international system and to replace it . . . with a new order dominated by Iran. . . . [T]he plain and brutal truth is that if Iran is to be prevented from developing a nuclear arsenal, there is no alternative to the actual use of military force.” Podhoretz concluded, “I pray with all my heart” that President Bush “will find it possible to take the only action that can stop Iran from following through on its evil intentions both toward us and toward Israel.” Podhoretz recently told politico.com that he had met with the President for about forty-five minutes to urge him to take military action against Iran, and believed that “Bush is going to hit” Iran before leaving office. (Podhoretz, one of the founders of neoconservatism, is a strong backer of Rudolph Giuliani’s Presidential campaign, and his son-in-law, Elliott Abrams, is a senior adviser to President Bush on national security.)

I'm convinced the Republican Party is building a Death Star and John McCain is our only hope but republicans have banished him to fighting Sand People on Tattoine.

I wonder where Arabs get these crazy ideas of a Zionist lobby in the U.S. government.
