A friend of mine is getting married next Friday. Him and his fiance are fighting over what their first dance song should be. She wants Your the Inspiration by Chigago....yech!

He wants Into the Mystic by Van Morrison which is a great song, but questionable for a first dance song at a wedding. What do you think would be the best first dance song at a wedding?

If that's not my first dance song as a married couple then he is going to have it rough for countless years to come.

Was it "Cupid" or, "You Send Me"? Either way you can't go wrong.

p.s. Does anybody know if the acoustic version of "A Girl Like You" played at the DC Connection's wedding is available for download?

my wife and i were debating between these two ... both about 2:00, moderate tempo and great (and appropiate) lyrics

johnny cash's version of "memories are made of this"
joe tex's "i want to (do everything for you)"

we went with johnny cash

Take one fresh and tender kiss / Add one stolen night of bliss / One girl, one boy, some grief, some joy / Memories are made of this

Don't forget a small moonbeam / Fold it lightly with a dream / Your lips and mine to sip the wine / Memories are made of this

Then at the wedding bells / One house where lovers dwell / Three little kids for the flavor / Stir carefully through the day / See how the flavor stays / These are the dreams that we must savor

With His blessings from above / Serve it generously with love / One man, one wife, one love for life / Memories are made of this

Second that, Sarah and I are going Cash too:

Rose Of My Heart

We're the best partners this world's ever seen
Together as close as can be
But sometimes it's hard to find time in between
To tell you what you are to me

You are the rose of my heart
You are the love of my life
A flower not faded nor falling apart
If you're tired, rest your head on my arm
Rose of my Heart.

When sorrow holds you in her arms of clay
It's raindrops that fall from your eyes
Your smile is the dun come to earth for a day
You brighten my blackest of skies

You are the rose of my heart
You are the love of my life
A flower not faded nor falling apart
If you're cool let my love make you warm
Rose of my heart

So hard times are easy times, what do I care
There's nothing I'd change if I could
The tears and the laughter are things that we share
Your hand in mine makes all times good

You are the rose of my heart
You are the love of my life
A flower not faded nor falling apart
You're my harbour in life's restless storm
Rose of my heart.

My sister who is getting married Saturday is going with Better Together by Jack Johnson.

We were thinking about using Nat King Cole's "The Very Thought of You", but then they started using it in a car commercial.

Ours was "Grow Old With Me", written by Lennon, performed by Mary Chapin Carpenter. Liz liked the song and I did too, although it didn't really have a "our song" vibe to it until after we got engaged.

Our last dances were an acoustic only version of "Thunder Road" by Springsteen from the "Plugged" live album, and "Mutineer" by Warren Zevon.

Mother-Son dance was Rod Stewart's version of "I'll Stand By You", Father-Daughter dance was the Beatles' "In My Life".

He wants Into the Mystic by Van Morrison which is a great song, but questionable for a first dance song at a wedding. What do you think would be the best first dance song at a wedding?

I love this song and if you can find the right arrangement, it could work. Is he having a band or a DJ?

Reviewing the lyrics, I don't see the issue with the song. Is it the horn breaks that you're questioning?

He is having a D.J. Personally, I think Into the Mystic would be fantastic, but I don't think that his chic "gets it." As I mentioned before, she wants "Your the Inspiration" so I think that she needs the first dance song to SPELL IT OUT for her. I'm afraid that my friend has a long road ahead.

I've never really thought about it but Dave & Casey's choice of "Cupid" by Sam Cooke was a great choice.

To tell the truth, I cringed at that mostly because it's about unrequited love.

But, if that's a song that makes them think of each other, well, it takes all kinds to make a world.

I see it as undying love and devotion but yeah, good point.... I figured the rhythm, melody, etc. makes it perfect for a first dance, though, and my relatives will be too loaded to notice. +1.

Maybe creepy isn't the word I wanted. What I'm saying is I can't imagine my mother's face watching her only song dance to that song at his wedding. That being said it is indeed an incredibly powerful song, and by that I mean it makes me misty.

I have no intention of getting married anytime soon. Though, I was having a conversation with my significant other about wedding songs. She said she always wanted her wedding song to be Stand By Me made famous by The Temptations.

I always wanted Dance With You by Live though that won't happen because of circumstance.

So, what song would you want your "first dance" to be danced to? Or, what was your wedding song?
