I tivo'd the first ep for kicks, not expecting much from what is basically a Survivor rip off.
But I watched Survivor, then this.
And I gotta tell ya, this looks like it may have legs.
Ok, it's missing the sex appeal of Survivor, but the drama of being away from home, and trying to live without (more than just a little) guidance, is captivating...and at times, touching. Yes, it seems that sometimes plot lines may have been suggested behind the scenes, and it gets a little sappy at times, but I think the emotions are real.
The only parts I didnt like was when the host (ala Jeff Probst) visits. He just seems like a giant pedophile boyscout leader. They mightve done better with a current child celeb.
I have a feeling Aggie'll like it too, but I put it out there for the rest of you. Wednesdays at 8pm.

My friend was over and there was nothing on so he left on Kid Nation. I had no interest at first but started to pay attention and actually liked the show. It was interesting to see some of the kids grow up fast knowing it was down to them to do everything. I think this show will show that todays society baby's kids too much and that if allowed or forced to grow up that they can do it.

i totally forgot about it on wednesday night, but i think there is a encore of the first episode sometime on saturday, I'll have to check it out.
I like the promo for the next episode where they vote who will kill the chicken and if they want to. Well, they better decide before they go after the fat kids.

Kid Nation is really good. I was so interested in seeing the show from the first time I heard of it I Tivo'd it but my cable cut out so I missed it. Luckily it's on the CBS website so I saw it last night and loved it. I added it to my season passes of shows.

This week's episode (#2) was just as good as the first one.
The town council made the right decision;
michael has been helpful even b4 the gold star was known, so he deserved it. That 15 yr old kid was only in it for the star...if he does another week of hard work, maybe... but according the the previews, his chances dont look good.
oh...and the chicken scene was rough to watch.

If Chris thinks I'll like it I should get on board! I trust his tastes, how could I not after Sorority Life bonding??? ;)
I actually recorded the first episode, then deleted it before watching becuase I'm overwhelmed with all the new shows I want to watch...but I'll add it again since it's getting decent reviews.

Oh, sniz-ap. AGGIE.
How Greg acts is so relevant to dealing with some people. If he could have hung in for a few more episodes, he could have gotten a gold star but it looks like he gave up.
Emilie wants the chickens all to herself.
Michael deserved the gold star for his overall effort.

at first, I absolutely HAAATED Jared (dorky kid with the cowboy hat) at first. He was soo annoying. But, the second episode really switched me. He's fucking hilarous. Him holding up a dead chicken. Everything thing he says is painfully hysterical.
Also, I wonder if ordinary people can challenge the council for new members. That Taylor needs to go. Elect Sophie or Michael. Something.

I believe they mentioned in the 1st episode that the Town Council can indeed be replaced/
and yeah, Jared: you dont want him to be your kid, but he's very entertaining.

The council definitely can be replaced at the town meeting and the beauty queen should be the target soon if not already. Michael is a cool kid too and deserved the star. These kids are more mature then most of the survivor cast so far.

Does anyone know what the hell they were drinking at the party?
It was supposed to look like Irish car bombs, or whatever, but... it looked like probably Coke and seltzer? Pretty gross downing a coke, yeah?
Anywho... I'm surprised animal rights people arent all over this show...or are they? I just havent heard... but with the chickens last week and the treatment of the sheep this week, someones gotta be upset.
Greg will eventually get a star, as long as he doesnt f it up.
and the little one getting it this week was touching, even though I dont think she shouldve gotten it just cuz its her bday.

Was I wrong that I was happy that the little bitch Taylor was crying and that they all ganged up on her? She such a little bitch, her parents are obviously filling her head with all the wrong shit. She talks down to everyone with her screaming "quiet" and her throwing her arms around and her unforgettable "Deal with it"
It was funny when the one little kid stood up and said that soon the town will do something she doesnt like and she will have to deal with it. That was great.

Tell CBS to Stop Killing Animals in Cheap Attempts to Boost Ratings!
CBS is at it again. Under the "leadership" of its president, Les Moonves, the network has become known for its gratuitous cruelty to animals—all done for ratings. First, rats and pigs were violently killed on Survivor to shock viewers, and now Moonves and his cronies have stooped to a new low by having kids kill animals on CBS' new show Kid Nation. You may wonder how Moonves missed the lesson that encouraging young people to kill animals (in this case, chickens, rats, and pigs) is not only bad for animals but also bad for kids—and the rest of society. “Murderers ... very often start out by killing and torturing animals as kids,” according to Robert K. Ressler, who developed profiles of serial killers for the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Although we are loathe to call attention to CBS' new "controversial reality show," we thought that all the people who contacted us with their concerns might want to write to the person who's been at the helm of CBS ever since the beginning of the network's thirst for animal blood. For those unfamiliar with the show, Kid Nation features a group of kids who are "left" in an Old West-style town for 40 days. In the latest episode, some of the kids are shown arguing about whether or not to kill three chickens for dinner. Several of the children had grown close to the chickens during their time on the show and didn't want them to be killed. Eventually, a small group of children convinces the others to go along with killing the animals because no other protein sources are available to them. The kids proceed to chop off the birds' heads on air. Some of the children were clearly traumatized.
Moonves and CBS should have ensured that these kids had access to vegetarian protein sources (such as beans, nuts, whole grains, veggie burgers, etc.) so that they could have gone with their compassionate instincts and not killed these animals. Under the premise of showing "reality," Moonves and CBS have now caused animals to die and kids to be scarred, just so the network could make more money.

Yah peta, let's just act like "a small group of children" convinced them. From what I saw, almost all of the kids were for the move. It's sad that even kids realize it's not torture, but a need. Big fucking deal and it's arguments/stands like these that simply crush their credibility.
As for Taylor, I find it hilarious that people already follow her bc of her looks. That asian girl and the other white kid that looks like those things you used to have at the end of a pencil (troll with weird hair I think) have all but formed a click as happens oh so often in schools. They laugh at anything she says and always follow. Funny how early it starts and you sure can tell her parents act the same fucking way. The yellow team is pretty much a waste and I would have made them do those dishes before taking over the kitchen.

Next week: Town Council Elections!!!! I'll guess Mike and Taylor are voted out.
This week: WTF is up with Laurel's lips? No chapstick in the 1880's?
Also, Cody's girlfriend looked like Cody in drag.

and again with the simulated drinking! Is rootbeer beer or a shot?

I really do not think that Mike is doing such a bad job. I couldnt believe he was crying over his "girlfriend". Hes 9 years old, shes a friend. I think its a little weird that the kids are all drinking root beer and drinking it like its shots or real alcohol. In 15 years all these kids will run to the drink when they have problems. They're already getting used to it.
I think Taylor has no clue about the real world. The coming attractions for next week shes talking about how she will win reelection. She has no shot and if she does then they all deserve what she does.
As for the reward. I think they should have chose the mini golf course. Not everyone there is into religion but they all could have used the golf course. It amazes me how quickly we as a society brain wash kids with religion. You could see the fear that each kid had towards an opposing religion and the hate they showed.

What's with Taylor and that albino chick drinking at the saloon while the other kids are totally ripping them a new one.
Also, Cody trying to get his mind of his girlfriend by washing away his sorrow in a root beer bottle.
On a side note, aren't all the rewards major cockteases. A choice between Pizzas or a microwave. Holy Books or Golfs. What's the next reward going to be, a choice between rifles to hunt jackrabbits or 4 indentured chinamen.

I totally agree about the fake drinking thing. That actually really bothered me when I watched my first episode. All they are doing is imitating adults and 'partying' like they've seen at home or on TV...I know a saloon had shot glasses, but there are 8 year olds there. Them saying they're going to go drown their sorrows in root beer is not amusing to me.
I see what you're saying about the religion/golf prize, but I think they made the right choice. Not because everyone wants to read about religion, but I think the golf course would have caused MAJOR issues. I mean, if they can't even get the yellow team to clean and cook like they were supposed to, imagine if they had a mini golf course tempting them? It would make delayed gratification so much harder if everytime they walked somewhere a fun distraction was staring them in the face. I don't think anything would get done!

So happy Zach is now leader. I felt bad for Mike getting NO votes but he also bugged me so I don't feel too bad for him.
We'll see if Greg works just as hard now that he has his money. I have a feeling he might slack off a little. I really wonder how much supervision they have. I saw Greg be somewhat touchy with Taylor's little blonde friend who was bawling a few times. Right after the showdown when the won the prize I saw him pick her up in a hug and swing her around. Then he was in her face on the floor next to her while she was crying. I'm probably reading way too much into it but it's a little creepy to see such a mature guy with all those little girls around.
The previews looked good, we'll see if this council can get results.

your defiantly looking way too much into that. He was trying to be like a big brother and console her.
As for Taylor losing, that was great. Yet it shows that there was only 1 smart girl that voted for a leader rather then a popularity contest. Zach has shown to be the most mature and understanding person out there.
The girl Olivia annoys me. She has that awful lisp and she was the reason her sister got a gold star even though she didnt deserve it. She was also the first one to talk down about other peoples religion.
I was happy for guylan, he is home schooled and wanted to take advantage and try things he hasnt been able to do.

I can totally see that AK!
I'm really into this show now, last night's episode was good with the garbage problem and everyone but Taylor seemed to be helping. I'm so glad DK got the gold star, he really deserved it.
I'm also surprised that the council seems to make the 'mature' decision every week about the reward. I didn't see the first 2 episodes so I don't know what the choices were then but they've turned down a mini-golf course, a BBQ with meat, doon buggies and other neat stuff. I think eventually they should pick something fun but they've made those decisions for the greater good at a very young age.
The preview for next week looked good..."they learn that money changes everything!"

Aggie, I'm glad youre digging it. You can go to cbs.com and watch the premiere ep if ya like.
About last night, ok, so they came up with a punishment, but no punishment for not carrying out your punishment? Zach said she wouldnt get any money.... wow, no 10cents.... but how about a jail or time out room where you cant participate in challenges/share a reward... or if they ever have dessert, no dessert? Taylor's got away scot free and Im surprised more kids arent observing this and joining in her lazitude. DK stood up for her, he should now talk to her and say, "I stood up for you, dont let me down."
Speaking of DK, his talk with Guylan was edited, so is it possible that Guylan said something like, "go back in and you WONT be disappointed...we gotta give a gold star out, REMEMBERRRR??? wink wink nudge nudge". I like DK, but I think the convo shouldve been in front of everyone so no one would think it was rigged.
and Guylan, im sorry, but I have to keep reminding myself that kid is a guy.

I'm a huge fan of Kid Nation, but one thing that's been bugging me is that gold star. It's a 2 pound gold star worth $20,000. I just wonder if they mean a 2 troy pound gold star or 2 avoirdupois pound gold star. Gold and other precious metals are measured in troy ounces which translates to troy pounds. At the current gold price, the gold star is worth (770.2*12 ounces*2) $18,485. If they are talking about standard pounds then it's worth (770.2*14.58333*2) $22,464. That's a $4,000 difference! Shit, this feels like an OCD.:annoyed:

as for the rewards, i also love them taking the mature choice every week, except for the religious books. that was very short sighted and i know none of the kids were reading those books even a week later.

First, in the begining of the episode, he knocks over tables as if he's Jesus pissed off in a temple yelling "Not in my House".

Green District:

Red District:

What bothered me is that DK wants to take away leadership from the guy who convinced HIM to stay 5 minutes longer so he could get his gold star!
And Blaine (thats not a name, thats a kitchen appliance)
He's the only one to raise his hand and say the council's doing a good job...
but then turns around, after receiving a gold star from them, and says he wants to oust Zach.
Consistency is good in a leader!
To answer your question, I think itll be a 3/4 shakeup, because Laurel will explain why she made the decision she did, and thats a pretty strong devotion (I did it because youre all perfect, and I love you!), so maybe even her opponent will withdraw.

i can't imagine laurel losing. the first time no one would run against her and she basically went along with that by not allowing anyone to be traded. it's hilarious that she is being ripped for not trading and anjay is being ripped for the opposite reason. blaine took his move as a chance to grow, yet his gay lover is throwing a constant hissy-fit over it. very embarrassing. zach turned into a douch overnight...i wish taylor was going to run against him and defeat him. it's also constantly amusing to see all the kids break down when one of them leaves. kids are so funny/emotional.

I thought it was hilarous when they were introducing the new kid to the Red District jailhouse and everyone was pissed off at Guylan. And Jared told him "you better lock yourself up at nighttime". !!!!! Was he threating to beat him with a sock full of soap. Fucking hysterical.

tonight's episode was crazy. The sudden shift of power. the "respect" game. I could see that working in cub scouts but it just seemed ill conceived. At first, I thought baby Jared said the game sucked cock. You could tell he was holding back his brutal honesty.
Michael seems to be the only one with common sense. DK is alright but he follows a lot of Greg and Blaine. I used to called Blaine "Greg's Toadie". Now, he actually seems competent and realizes that Greg's an ass most of the time.
got kinda sick of Laurel bitchin' about not being on the council. She was the best of the counsel but it kinda got to her head. And Michael's a good egg.

There's kids there that are younger than 10 and theyre doing fine. Remember, I think it was Kid Jesus who said, "Lets not any of us blame our age for not being able to do something."
Taylor's a prissy little spoiled rotten kid whose parents have no parenting skills. She's been taught that all she has to do is cry, or promise she'll be good, and she gets anything she wants... even when she doesnt come thru. It's time for town council to "pick on" her some more and show her what a promise means. I agree with Greg that the letter from home wouldve been a little hard to take away... but if she keeps her crap up, and it looks as though she does... its time for the council to take away her share of a reward. Maybe even say, when given a choice between two... ask Taylor what she thinks they should pick. Pick it, and dont let her partake. (I know, I'd be an evil parent).
Theres only like 10 days left, and Taylor should get something out of this experience.
And yeah, that fat kid (Jennie?) is definitely not pulling her own weight. That would be impossible...did you see her eating the pies she was supposed to be shuffling to the next person?

taylor is a lost cause - she is just getting prepared for a teen wedding starring her and her baby's daddy.
i almost fell out of my seat seeing that human train wreck they call Jenny eating the pies! did she realize that she was in a competition and not at home, where pies apparently fling past her face, hence the jamming of her pig knuckles into whipped cream? i think not!
i would have also really liked to see the council take the ponies and use them for polo, and order the negros around for a virgin mint julep. that or beat the ponies til they died . . . . please kill the ponies - for the children

Ever notice every episode of this show follows the exact same premise? There's a problem in the town. They interview one of the kids, he mainly talks about the problem. Council reads the log, it brings up the issue. They introduce some kid that you haven't even seen in the town yet, and all of the sudden he/she is the center of attention. One of the kids is causing a disturbance. Some kid is crying and wants to go home. The challenge and reward deals with the "problem" of the week. The kid that is all of the sudden the center of attention is up for the gold star. Same shit different week.
It bugs me when the kids call home, the parents ask surprised when the kid is calling. "Hello who's this?" Like she didn't notice the fucking camera crew in her kitchen.

Every week, I laugh harder at this ridiculous show than any other show. It has it all----the, "Take that Adults" attitude coupled with children who are more adult than most adults I know makes for good TV. Sophia in particular will grow to be a frightening woman. Jared might be the funniest person on TV, period. From last week's 'Dance-man' line to this weeks, "Pelvis has left the building," he has an awkward, cunning wit and I truly believe he could outsmart Eastside Dave and certainly Earl. That little fucker Alex gets that one tooth going, and its over. He could eat rice through a barbed-wire fence with that thing. I say these positives about Kid Nation not so much as an example of quality programming but more as a glaring observation that TV in general is absolutely abhorrent right now if this show, even with its many laughs; is the best thing on TV.

whoa there fella. Its not the best thing on tv. Its decent escapism at best, although Ive never missed an episode. (what can i say? i like to escape).
I forget his name now, but that kid who used to be on Council and was crying tonight, then he gets upset at the council for making fun of his crying.... if you recall, he made fun of some younger girl for crying earlier in the season. Hypocrite.
and I know its getting late in the season, but nominating yourself is never a good idea. Besides, next week the stars get bigger, so maybe it was best to hold out.
Watching Jared and Alex discover that dead bull was the most entertaining piece this week.
Alex describing how he wants to hold on to the star a little while because the price of gold is on the rise... hilarious.
and as always, Jared at the end... I thought that thing was gonna sting him.

As for the show, I really enjoyed it and never thought it would be for me. The lack of reunion ending was a letdown and I too thought the council got ripped off. Mike surely would have been a great choice for a big star and possible the others. I thought the town should have at least voted for 1 or 2 of the town council to get a star as well. I was waiting for the host to say that the whole council would also get a star of their own, but no dice. It really sucked they were out of the equation, but wouldn't it have been funny if they gave them all to each other!
